Toyota Vios 1.5G vs. Honda City 1.5E

hello mga sir, plan ko kasi talaga eh kukuha kami ng vios 1.5G kasi may bronze mica metallic na available color for this one, same as my innova, low cost of parts, maintenance, at tipid sa gas, magandang bihisan.

pero may nakapagsabi sakin ng honda city 1.5E. naisip ko meron ding bronze neto at mas konti sa daan kesa vios, maganda ding bihisan di ko lang alam sa maintenance and parts neto. advice naman po kung anu talaga ang mas magandang bilin sa dalawa.

this will be our 1st gas vehicle kasi adventure at innova namin is diesel pareho. medyo newbie ako sa gas engine eh. pa help mga sirs, mga gurus. :D

pa advice naman po w/c is better RE sa:

1. exterior/appearance
2. interior (dashboard, space inside like legroom, trunk space, stock speakers sound quality, HU (may aux input ba?) AC vents etc.)
3. performance (engine power, reliability)
4. maintenance (costs of parts, availability of parts)
5. fuel consumption (hiway and city drive)

So ayun, I've been using a Honda City 1.5E for the past 1-2 weeks now. And I`ll make this short as possible.

1. Handling is commendable. Although I still like the handling of the FD ( syempre hehe )

2. Acceleration and transmission response is superb - when you put your foot down, hindi na nagdadalawang isip yung kotse downshift agad at yung rpm sipa sa 4000rpm

3. Audio is nice. Pwede na siya kabitan ng iPod. Although I think the speakers needs to be replaced kung OC ka medyo sa quality. ( ganun naman lahat ng Honda yata, maski sa FD so-so lang )

4. Interior is just fantastic. Malamig sa mata yung optitron gauges sa gabi, and it feels sporty

5. Space is so-so. Tried maxing out the seating capacity of the City while it is still with me. 6 persons. 2 sa harap, 4 sa likod. And that's the max na pwede mo isakay i think.

6. Luggage space is so-so. Not really good, not bad either. It's just fine. Ok for hauling small stuff, not good for hauling bulky and long baggage

7. Looks are subjective, dati ayoko. But since I had the car for about 2 weeks, I'm starting to like it more.

I have few gripes about it.

1. It easily bottoms out. I really need to take it easy on humps when the car is full.

2. Headlight is weak. ( I have to admit, the Vios' lighting is better )

3. Yung pagpasok mo sa rear seat, kung medyo matangkad ka eh may pagkahirap. Pwede ka mauntog dun sa frame.

Yun lang naman.

Understandable, since my pace was fast. I hardly went down 90kph all throughout. And there were occasional hard accelerations.

Guess I won't be trying eco-runs on this car as I did on the FD ( topped at 13km/L btw ) since I am having lots of fun driving this. If given the chance, I'd want to have one. Erh. Baka tumatanda lang ako at nagugustuhan ko na matic as opposed to my cars which are all manual. Hehe.

I haven't tried driving the Vios G 1.5M/T yet. So wala pa akong comment about dun.

Ang alam ko lang.

1. It's fast. ( M/T 1.5L eh )
2. Its headlights are good as compared to the City
3. I don't like the current looks, I like the pre-MMC Vios' looks more.

some info po. last 2009 halos sabay kami kumuha ng friend ko auto. Kinuha ko yung 1.3E at siya naman yung 1.5E na city. nasubukan ko idrive yung city niya at nadrive niya rin yung vios ko.

1. exterior - depende sa tumitingin, yung vios kasi medyo naka smile at yung city pagalit effect
2. interior - kung overall looks mas maganda tingnan yung city, medyo standard kasi yung vios. pero sa legroom we both agreed na mas maluwag ang vios. although sa labas mas mukang maluwag tingnan yung city. stock HU panalo rin ang city.
3. para sa akin parehas lang yan ng performance
4. pagdating sa maintenance sa tingin ko lamang ang vios, dahil sa dami ng taxi i'm very sure walang problema sa availability ng parts. sa reliability tingin ko vios din, nakasakay na ata ako ng vios taxi na halos 200k na odo pero swabe pa rin.
5. yung 1.3 ko is 12km/l sa city driving, highway cguro nasa 14-16.

para sa akin tabla lang sila overall, pili ka na lang kung ano mas prefer mo na looks :-)

Good Luck on your choice here sir. I reckon you won't have a problem naman either way you choose. Sa tingin ko lang mas cheaper PMS nung Vios. I'm just basing this with our maintenance nung bigger brothers nila (Civic FD 1.8S MT & Corolla Altis 1.6V).

The City is more cleverly designed and makes efficient use of space.

The Vios is easier to work on when it comes to repair and maintenance. Lot's of parts are serviceable. The City has lots of 'assembly' parts that are designed to be replaced and not serviced when damaged or worn. But hey, Filipinos are very ingenious when it comes to ghetto fixes so I guess someone will figure out how to service those items (e.g. suspension arms have to be replaced when a bushing goes bad unlike in other cars that you only need to take the bushing out and put in a new one).

The trunk of the City feels roomier and better shaped.
The interior details of the City are more clever when it comes to ergonomics, storage, and comfort. Just don't count on any underseat storage because the fuel tank lives under the front seat. Not a bad thing, considering its the safest place in a crash.

The Vios interior plastics don't really feel so great. The padded dash of an earlier generation Corolla even feels better than the slab of black plastic they put in as the Vios dashboard. Not sure if this will age gracefully also. The hard plastic on a City feels better, too.

And who's the idiot who put the jack underneath the driver's seat of the Vios? Why not put them all together in the trunk? It also eats up toe room for the rear passenger.

Not sure about this but on the Jazz, you have to take the front bumper and headlamp out just to replace a headlamp bulb. Pretty dumb. AFAIK, you just need to pop the hood of the Vios to replace the headlamp bulbs. Not something you're gonna do often, but when a headlamp fails in the most unfortunate place and you need to check it (e.g. when the kotong cop apprehends you for a dead headlamp and you happen to have a spare bulb in the car), you're pretty much screwed.

The City doesn't have side protective door mouldings that the Vios has. Say hello to parking lot dings and dents. I hope you are friends with a good PDR shop.

Overall, just pick which one you like better.

True. With regard to the Vios plastics, its just plain cheap (although the City is quite plasticky as well). I really noticed this when we took down the dash of a Vios before; it's just one chunk of ugly, cheap plastic that could look like a China toy. The same goes for its other plastic panels hidden inside the dash. You'd notice the difference if you were used to seeing the old dashboards from the 1990's Toyotas.

On the suspension, the City has better handling but when you throw in potholes, the Vios has better insulation and shock aborption; we bottomed out a brand new City onto a deep pothole before (at low speed, in a parking lot) and it gave out a real ugly "thunk" sound. Driving feel is definitely to the City for me as you sit lower and in the car, and not high and on the car when you're in the Vios.

On parts, the Vios parts should have an edge given my experience with both Toyota and Hondas in the past. I helped out in repairing an Ondoy modified Vios for a relative and the Japan replacement and Toyota OEM parts have been easily sourced and prices were okay either at the CASA or at Banawe.

Overall though, i'd go with the City for personal use. I just prefer the driving feel and handling much, much more.

sir ericson21, in case na vios kukunin nyo make sure na pantay ung kulay ng car paint. may kakilala ako hindi pareho ung shade nung hood at bumper nya tapos halata pa. silver ung oto nya.
