I am buying a car this Monday. It's a second hand blue 98 Honda Civic hatchie!

I am quite a newbie in this scene and would like to ask you guys for help. What do I need to know before handing over the cash and closing a car deal? What papers should I be having? Any advise would be greatly appreciated! The deal is gonna take place this Monday so please give me as much advise as you can share!

    Cheers!

Nice! An EK Hatch! Converted ba? San galing?

If it is, check the conversion of the vehicle. Some competent converters do a great job in converting RHD to LHD especially in Cebu. Pangit lang ng dashboard! hehehe!

Kung galing Cebu, be sure to check other units before closing the deal.

If orig LHD, ignore the previous text.

Before the purchase, check the OR/CR of the vehicle.
    * OR: Official Reciept of Registration
    * CR: Certificate of Registration

It's best to bring a competent mechanic that knows well about Honda Civics in particular (better if he knows well about the EK Hatch) to check the condition of the vehicle.

Upon purchase, all you need to bring is you cash and a cedula (Community Tax Certificate) for the Deed of Sale. If you are the one making the Deed, it's best to make 5 copies of each: 1 seller, 1 city/municipal hall copy, 1 LTO copy and 2 copies for the buyer. Have them all Notarized to be a valid Deed.

Thanks man! I will definitely take note of what you said. Yes, I believe it is the EK chasis from Japan, forgot to ask if it's converted though. Will I not have a hard time in finding parts for an imported car? Or can I use the local parts here in the Phils?

    Yes, galing sya sa Cebu..

Just one thing, I'm 19 years old and don't have a cedula yet. Any other alternatives?

Anyone 18 and over can get a cedula. It is a requirement for contracts to be notarized, like the deed of sale, unless hindi sa iyo ipapangalan.

Medyo late na, kaso for a first car and a daily driver, sakit sa ulo yata ang converted. Do search for several old threads about buying second hand cars, converted vehicles, what to check, etc.

    Good luck.

So sa City Hall ako kukuha ng cedula? Hmm, I'll check that out..

Also, how do you notarize documents?

If you are a newbie to cars, are you sure you can handle a converted unit? Pag-isipan mo muna sir baka sumakit ulo mo. Lalo na kung daily car mo iyan. Tipong pamasok, pang-hatid-sundo, pang-grocery, etc.

Since it's an import, check if all taxes and duties have been paid by the importer.

May parts naman iyan except from JDM-specific parts like the automatic climate control and other electronic toys (if so equipped). Pero may mga nakita na din akong lousy conversions.

Si gearspeed may EK Hatch din. Baka mabigyan ka niya ng payo.

is the money use to purchase the vehicle will be comming from your parents pocket, right? so here's my advice to you: listen to your parents, because they know whats best for you, to love, respect and cherish them... also, make the time to help around and be a usefull member of the family...

now regarding sa car, before making any purchases, make sure the car is in good condition, bring along your father and a friend who knows well/expert with regards to vehicle like a mechanic... kadalasan binebenta ang car dahil majority mayproblema na...
then have the car verify if it is clean, like: is it mortgaged? is it used in criminal activities? is it carnap? etc etc...

for me its still best that you buy a brand new vehicle that is within your budget or thru financing... at least wala sakit ng ulo...

    iyun lang

I remember when I bought my first car. I was so excited that I tend to forgo the little things that became nightmares afterwards. That car was a 1970 Opel Manta.

Just make sure that you have a solution (and the cash) to fix those 'little things' down the road, if you want to have a car without any problems.
