TO avoid the impact of the E-VAT on car prices, consumers went on a buying spree in the month of June, raising vehicle sales to 15.4 percent.

According to a joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines and the Truck Manufacturers Association, the increase in sales could also be attributed to the introduction of new models and aggressive marketing.

From a total of 8,069 units sold in May, car sales reached 9,310 last month or an increase of 15.4 percent.

Overall, a total of 47,624 units were sold from January to June, higher than the 42,032 total units sold in the same period last year.

The number of units sold in the first six months, the Campi and TMA said, account for half o the local industry's sales forecast of 95,000 units for the entire year.

Despite the hard times, overall sales are expected to be maintained in the coming months.

The same report also said passenger car sales increased by 11.5 percent in the first half to 17,664 units from 15,842 units in the same period of last year.

Sales of commercial cars that include the popular Asian utility vehicles, buses and trucks fared better with an increase of 18.1 percent to 29,960 units from 25,376 units.

In the first half, AUV sales went up by 29 percent(13,720 units); LCV by 4 percent (15,074) and light trucks to 17 percent (921 units).

However, sales of trucks and buses went down by nine percent, from 268 to 245.

As expected, Toyota Motors Philippines Corp. emerged tops, cornering 34.7 percent of the sales, selling 16,803 units in the first six months of 15.1 percent higher than the 14,595 units it sold in the same period last year.

Coming in second was Mitsu-bishi Motors Corp., which accounted for 14.1 percent of the market as it sold 7,083 cars, 19.3 percent higher than the previous level of 5,938 units.

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. ranked third with a 13.7 percent share of the market.

Honda sales reached 4,862 units in the first six months. This was 15.4 percent lower than the 5,746 units it sold in the same period last year.

parang bullcrap naman yang E-VAT effect on vehicles e. far as i know, motor vehicles were already covered by the VAT long ago and are not affected by the E-VAT, which applies mainly to petroleum and shipping and some other industries.

case in point, friend ko, bumisita ako sa bahay nila aba check this out -> 2 vios, 2 crv, 2 City or is it 3, 1 High Ace. I mean who needs a lot of cars? well aside from color coding purposes and a weekend to for some. Dagdag gastos sa maintenance not to mention the registration and other misc stuff.

This is really bad for some who enjoys driving without traffic... Yes, it is good somehow for the economy but our roads cannot keep up with the increasing volume of vehicles trying to squeeze in every square-inch of our roads.

Dati umalis ka ng 6AM sa bahay mo, wala pang katrapik-trapik. Eh ngayon even a few minutes before the rush hour peaks, siksikan na ang mga sasakyan sa mga kalsada ng metro manila.

Car sales up in June-- and still rising
