Hehehe wala lang I'm just wondering how the tsikot posters think.....

Would you rather buy a used car that is a notch higher in class, or a brand new one that is a step lower.

    Examples:

Would you rather get a new Fortuner or an '03 (new body) Expedition?

Or would you rather get the previous 5-series or a brand new 3?

Yung tipong magka-presyo sila, pero they belong to different classes & year models.

Ako personally mas-gusto ko yung used pero higher in class, rather than getting a new one na mas-lower. How about you guys?

For a daily driver, I will buy a brand new one. Para walang hassle sa warranty. Downside is paglabas mo pa lang ng casa depreciated na ang kotse mo.

For something like a project car, second hand ako para walang concerns sa pag-void ng warranty.

I'd get the used but higher class.

In reality our family can't afford a bnew car anyway...

cost no object, brand new. syempre masarap ang "virgin"

but the fiscally responsible thing to do is to get a 2-year old or certified used car. let someone else pay for the depreciation.

but i didn't take my own advice for both the cars i own now...nabighani ako eh :hihihi:

    Present.

But of course if you have the cash to spare then getting brand new is the choice (granted they still sell the model that you're after).

There's no "best option" on this brand new vs. 2nd hand thing but rather you weigh what your priorities are.

    I'd buy a 2000 BMW M3 than a 2006 BMW 3 series executive.

    seonadancing is getting the idea!

vinj & M54 Powered: Of course a brand new one, assuming that they're the same model/year, beats a used one. But what I meant was if the used one is higher in class.

    e.g. A used 7-series or a brand new 5-series?

Yup if the budget you want to use is limited, prefer a 2nd hand na higher end or top of the line ride, than getting a brand new but having to downgrade.

i go for brand new even it needs longer savings. tyagaan lang and wait for positive inputs from fellow tsikoteer pre-owned is also an option if luck crosses your way. mura na matino pa

Of course mas satisfying talaga brand new. Pero your idea is not really new.

I've been doing that for my last two cars and all i can say is that if you can get a pre-owned unit in tip tip shape, go for it!

Brand new lower model car for a daily driver...

Secondhand anything for a fun car. But then I'd probably spend the entire cost difference on rebuilding, detailing, and bringing the car back up to brand new spec...

that, or modifying the sh*t out of the engine...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

my last 2 purchases were used cars, so you know what my vote will be.
got a 2000 cefiro for around 400k, instead of a new altis for 800k. (my choices then)
with all the leftover cash, was able to get a plasma tv and lots of other toys.
    so far, no regrets.
recently got a bmw 320i for almost 500k, again instead of the altis.
put the leftover in some investments, got some stuff for the family. everybody happy.
got a new car back in 2003 i think, and i havent really felt anything special about having it "new". dami lang hassle when checking the used car, but its also fun and you learn a lot about the car that way.

un ng nasabi na..if money is no object, the latest ing automotive marvel!brand-new
but, most of us are not that, only 1-5% na parang tinat*e lang ang pera... a prestine condition pre-owned car...un nga, let some-one else swallow the depreciation...

kasi, meron mga tao bibili ng bago, then mga after a 1/2 - 1 month benta agad...just to show-off ika nga, un ang best buy!

in my current financial condition, i'd get a brand new-lower model car. aside from the possible headaches of a used car, di ko ata kaya ang daily maintenance ng higher model car. example cguro if getting a brand new vios/city or a 2000 camry/accord. although very tempting because of the prestige, comfort, size, etc you could get from the 2nd hand car, not to mention that no one would know that you bought it second hand, i wouldn't be able to afford the gas, parts and labor bills. which is why i'd be getting the thriftier, smaller and more practical low end car in the 1st place. pero kung may pera naman, bibili akong high-end na brand new! hehehe. kaya mukhang depende pa rin sa needs ng bumibili ang sagot dito. hehe

twice na akong nakabili ng pre owned vehicles imbes na makinig ako sa payo ng relatives na bumili ng brand new pero lower end. In 2001 I bought a 2000 SiR imbes na halos ka price bracket na 01 LXi at that time. Last year naman I preferred buying a late 03 CRV imbes na bumili ng brand new Civic VTi. Pero pag bumibili ako ng sasakyan, I scrutinize maigi yung vehicle na hindi ako nagmamadali bumili kaagad at talagang pumipili ako ng best buy yung tipong halos ay brand new condition at very low mileage pa lang. So far wala pa naman akong nabili na nagsisi ako.
