Sorry for creating a new thread, i know madami na related sa query ko. Here it goes.
My in-laws are looking for a secondary car (toyota avanza) since limited ang budget for getting a brand new one. So yesterday we started browsing online ads, listed some potential to buy and pinasyalam na din namin.
My questions are:
1. My father in law has a background regarding engines stuff etc. When checking used vehicles (sabi niya yun ha) ang practice niya is while the engine is running, he opens the slot where you pour the engine oil.
-dapat daw walang usok na lalabas
-dapat daw may papahigop na pressure
-dapat daw walang bubuga na oil papalabas
And I'm thinking. Tama ba yung checklist niya for the engine?
Lahat ng tiningnan namin after opening the cap may tumalsik na engine oil. For him red flag na yun.
2. Okay ba bumili sa pre-owned ng toyota? Mas mahal nga but worth it ba sa quality ng vehicles dun sa price difference?
3. May nagustuhan siya kahapon kaso ang issue naman niya is registered sa Naga City pero ang issued plates is manila plates "N" series Possible ba yun?
Your inputs?
TIA

Tama in-law mo.
For 1 and 3, walang usok na lalabas and walang oil na lalabas, kasi both are definite signs of blow-by.
Yung sa 2, na dapat negative ang pressure, yan e depende kung designed yung engine na negative crankcase pressure. This is only mostly true (repeat, mostly true, not absolutely true) for big engines. smaller engines may not be designed with negative pressure crankcases. most small gasoline engines will have positive pressure in the crankcase. ang field test dito is when the engine is still relatively cold (pwede pa hawakan ng bare hands) open the oil filler hole and press down with your palm to keep the pressure in with the engine revved up a little. if the pressure is too much (on medium engine speed) then blow-by na.
but the best test is of course with a engine compression tester. pwede mo naman i-request dun sa seller na pa-compression test ninyo, kayo lang nga magbabayad sa test.

January 28th, 2014 01:08 AM #6the car may have originally been registered new, in manila, hence the "N". but renewal of annual registration can be anywhere in the country. or, the plate number is a special order of letters and/or numbers, that necessitated its initial registration in manila.
if you do buy that car, i do not know if you will have to bring the car all way back to manila to effect transfer to your name.. better check this out.

I share the same sentiments. If ayaw ipa-test drive, walk away. It's not like you plan on driving it all the way to Baguio... even a short 1km run will reassure the buyer that what he's buying is in good working condition. Simply inspecting tells part of the story ;)

January 28th, 2014 07:25 AM #10Kung N plates and registered in Naga City, check the date of the CR, baka pinatransfer ng location lang naman yung car from LTO manila to LTO Naga.
Yung sa amin ganyan, Z plate pero pinalipat from Manila to Naga City.
Kung Naga City binili yung car, E plate.
that may be, but we all got plastic, young and old. we asked the lto guy, "papel ba po, o...
