I'm planning to buy a cheap-o car just to go to work and school and stuff, and it's gotta have A/C cuz I got asthma problems. I'm dead set with either toyota, honda, or mazda. What i remember was that my cousin bought a decent 92 Corolla GL for 70k back in 2005... so it should only cost 50k now?
    My main questions are:
Anyone have any idea what's the going price range now for used 90's cars?
I might be looking into some mazdas, how can you tell if it used to be a taxi?

my max budget is currently at 60k might be able to spare more the longer I wait, but I need a car badly because I work the graveyard shift and it's elections season so it's kinda like martial law around this time. I just wanna be safe.
    Thank You for your blessings

You could opt for the ummm .... Nissan Sunny.

You're lucky if you can find a DECENT 90's corolla at the 60k price range. - most of it are priced at 80k above ... lowest 70k.

You can also look at the pride and the nissan lec. A little haggling and maybe you should be getting it at 60k.

But it's better if you stretch your budget a very little bit ... like addt'l 10k more :D

for bulldog : maybe he meant was killing here and there - the typical election fever.

if you are talking about depreciation for an early nineties car. it doesn't matter too much if there is a one year difference. prices for these kind of cars will vary more because of their condition. tama save up for the most you can afford and choose carefully there's not much to be saved by waiting for another year.

teka tsaka medyo moot nadin yung point ko since it's 2010 nadin hehe. happy new year!

ok2x thanks guys for the input
i'm gonna go ahead and increase the budget then to 70k
i'm planning on using the car for less than a year anyways, so it's just temporary, that's why I wont spend too much. I was thinking that cars are cheaper now cuz my tita got a 96 civic lxi matic for only 150k and it looks kinda new still... gives me hope that there's a good bargain out there hahaha

So the steps to buying a used car is to check the papers 1st right? if it's not under the sellers name then i should do that pnp clearance thing for cars right?

Any tips on how you can spot a car that's an Ondoy victim?

Ya, during presidential elections... I notice that it gets a bit crazy around here. Especially this year because of the kind candidates that will be running.

That you cannot spot if the car has been cleaned-up properly.

You can however know if it has been flooded if the owner is very honest to you or some stains are still visible.

Better option would be for you to test drive the vehicle.

No one however can assure to you that a smooth-running vehicle isn't flooded. Why ? It could have been repaired properly ... and problems might pop out some time ... maybe a year or two.

yes, please enlighten me too on this subject. I'm planning to buy a 2nd hand car so does that mean that the 2001-2003 models are relatively cheaper since we're talking about 7-9 yr old cars already? TIA.

Relatively Cheaper than what model ? Than what car make ?

    It really depends.

    For example ...

    1999 - 2000 Honda Civic SiR sells for 350k and a 2006 Civic sells for 750k.

    or....

A 2002 BMW sells for 800k but a Civic ES 2005... which is newer .... sells for 500k.

Same goes with any other car brands and model. i.e. camry vs. corolla .. sentra vs. mitsubishi what model ? what is the year make ?
