need a car for a retired elderly couple (70 years old ang mag-drive). currently, they are residing in a city sa province. usual na mga lakad ay sa mall, supermarket at church. once in a while they go out of town. maximum budget is 250k. ayaw ng automatic. below are their choices.

    2006 Sentra GSX M/T - 225k
    mileage - 75k
    all original, all stock

    2008 Getz 1.1L M/T - 235k
    Mileage - 35k
    all original, 15" mags

what would you recommend & why..

Wow~ Matanda na ayaw sa matic!

The Sentra's fine. Got a comfortable ride, decent performance and gas mileage. But then, if I am not mistaken, it requires a minimum of 95 RON premium gasoline. The Sentra's mileage, though reasonable, is on the high side. I suggest something with lower mileage.

The Getz is so small. Its more of a student's car than a retiree's car!

Pwede ang Ford Lynx 1.6 Ghia or 2.0RS. Nasa probinsya sila so hindi ganon kalakas sa gas ang 2.0RS.You get lots of amenities, good looks and a comfortable ride.

And then there's the early to mid 2000s ZZ Altis 1.6. You get an older unit as compared to the Lynx or Sentra, but its got excellent reliability, an endless parts supply and guaranteed good gas mileage to back it up.

Yung Sentra na, at least malaki laki at solid ang feeling compared sa Getz.

Hindi naman yan laklak, probinsya eh, kokonti traffic tapos yung 1.6 naman ta's MT pa.

    Pwede rin Ford Lynx.

i like sentra. malambot ang manibela at clutch..
but the most malambot i have ever tasted, is the revo diesel glx... unbelievable!
but i also know, some folks have difficulty getting into revos..

Assuming both brands have good parts and service support in that city, Sentra it is. Just check the papers of the Sentra to make sure also that it's not a hot car and try to verify the service records to ensure it's mileage is correct and the service has been done regularly (every 5,000kms).

Sentra na lang. My late grand father still loves driving a stick (our Innova J Gas) at 76, although daily driver nya Camry AT. My grandfather's business partner now at 75 still drives a manual Montero Sport. Mas matipid daw kasi manual. Napaka sinop na matanda. Samantalang ang tatay ko, nag announce na nang retirement nya sa Manual Transmission at 53yo. Ang tamad! haha!

My Lola was still driving until she was 80, but it was only around Makati. They had her stop recently when she started having memory problems.

My Mom stopped driving in her 60s. Even if she wanted to drive, I won't allow her anymore because she has diabetes and hypertension. I guess it depends on the health of the person rin.

    I'd pick the Sentra too.

risky? why? because lolo refuses to drive "fast", or because the young 'uns weave in and out of his lane with impunity?
need we be reminded, that lolo was retired, not because is he is feeble, but because the young 'uns needed his job and his salary..

You should see old folks in the US. Seniors in their 70s driving their own cars and doing grocery on their own. Hahahaha

In Metro Manila traffic, a driver is preferable if they have daily commutes.

Years ago, my sister and aunt were driving on the autobahn with my lolo and lola. Pinapagalitan ng lolo ko (+) yung tita ko as she was running in excess of 140kph. My tita pointed to the car behind them that passed quickly (maybe at around 160kph-180kph), driven by an old man. :D

Yun nga lang, its quite different in countries like the US and Europe where the law and order on the roads are more observed.

I've seen them...it's different in the US, where they have nobody to drive for them or they can't afford to hire chauffeur unless they're really rich..

it's relatively safe for seniors to drive there but not here with all assholes driving around...

if these are my folks, I won't let them drive on their own in that age...

    O - Old
    L - Looking
    V - Vehicle for
    O - Old People
