    Help naman guys.

Ok ba ang Chevrolet Optra? Dami ko nakikita nasa 200k-250k ang price ng 2nd hand. Best buy ba ito?

I am also looking for other 2nd hand car with 200k value.. Nalilito ako if alin sa mga ito ang best buy, honda vtec '97, lancer glxi '97, corolla lovelife, corolla gli, etc... Naghahanap din ako ng 2000 model pataas pero lampas 200k na ang value nya.

Or you can suggest me your best buy cars.

I prefer sedans rather that hatchback models. Mas mukha talaga kasi kotse.

Pero kung wala na talaga, ok lang din ang hatchbacks.

Pakisend kung may alam kayo web link of these type of cars.

    Many thanks!

I would prefer getting the fresher Optra rather than the late 90's Civic or Corolla given that car maintenance is good.

But based sa mga threads here, dami daw problems ng Optra. I think hirap din makahanap ng mga spare parts kung sakali masira. It took 2 months daw bago nakahanap ng OEM na spare.

Optra is Daewoo built din. Tama ba?

Yes, the Optra is built by Daewoo. By itself, the Optra is actually a good car. I find the design quite appealing and many have commended its handling and braking performance. The engine is so-so in terms of performance but fuel mileage isn't the best out there, but it does have a lot of toys for your money. But being a Chevrolet, parts are indeed expensive and harder to source as compared to its Japanese and (officially) Korean rivals. If you are willing to live with that, the Optra will serve you well. I have a friend whose family has a 2005 Optra that has clocked well above 100000 kilometers already.

    Hi guys,

What do you think Honda City Exi or Type Z? Marami ako nabasa sa thread na best buy daw ang Honda City in terms ng value dahil sa fuel economy at low maintenance nito.

How about the Nissan cars? Mura na siya as of now kaya lang di ko malaman kung ano difference ng FE, Exalta, Series 3 & 4. Can anyone here explain their difference.

How about the Toyota cars? Medyo expensive ang Altis. Hindi kaya ng budget ko. Pero may nakita ako na Lovelife at Baby Altis models? Ano difference nila dalawa?

Lastly, how about the Ford Lynx Ghia Cars? Best buy din ba ito for 200k budget?

Please help guys, nalilito na ako kung pinakabest buy sa kanila, Mahirap magtapon ng money... Thanks.

Get a Corolla bigbody and you'll never have to worry about maintenance again, not only because it's so cheap and readily available... but because the Corolla is so reliable, most of the time you'll only have to worry about filling the gas tank. There's a reason why there's still a ton of these cars out there 15 years later.

The possibilities are also endless in setting up these cars to your personal taste (Sprinter conversions, 4efte swaps, etc.). You'll also always have an excuse to go to Banawe with this car.

Old cars are only as good as the spare parts you can find and buy (at affordable prices). That said, the Chevy Optra is probably one of the worst used cars you might find on the used car market. Parts are hard to find and when you do find some, it would probably cost you an arm and a leg.

That is probably the reason why used Optras are cheap to buy.

As for the Sentras (1996-2002 models)

    Taken from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Sentra
*FE - GA13DS: 1295 cc DOHC 16 valve carburetor (power steering only, without stereo)

*EX Saloon - GA14DE: 1392 cc DOHC 16 valve EFI (power steering only, with stereo)

*Super Saloon - GA16DNE: 1597 cc DOHC 16 valve EFI (all power, power antenna) (auto retract mirrors, SRS airbags and ABS were optional at first and later became mandatory to all units)

Due to the success of the Super Saloon, Nissan Philippines introduced the Super Touring and GTS, to compete with the Toyota Corolla TRD (limited edition) and 160HP Honda Civic SiR sedan.

*Super Touring - GA16DNE: with a sportier bodykit (lucino bumpers with foglights, sideskirt, spoiler) power steering, power windows, auto retract mirrors

*GTS - GA16DNE: successor of the Super Touring (sporty bumpers, sideskirt and spoiler) all power features, all power, power steering, power windows, auto retract mirrors

Nissan Philippines then repackaged the Sentra to a more luxurious line up in order to compete with the Toyota Corolla Altis.

*Exalta SLA - GA16DE: with reinforced extended bumpers, multi-reflector headlamps, elm wood interior accents, all power features, power steering, power windows, rear backup sensors, sapphire starlight gauges, manual transmission.

*Exalta STA - GA16DE: luxurious version of the SLA all power features, power steering, power windows, auto retract mirrors, all leather seats, power sliding sunroof, automatic climate control, 2-Din stereo with 12-Disc CD Changer, fog lights, 4 channel 4 sensor ABS, sapphire starlight gauges.
The nickname "series 3" and "series 4" generally refers to the above mentioned cars. Series 3 tend to be referring to the Super Saloon, Super Touring, GTS, EX Saloon and FE models. Series 4 tend to refer to the later released Exalta SLA & STA models.

As used cars, the Exalta SLA & STA might look great but body parts can be hard to find (surplus or otherwise) because of the relative low numbers of these cars (and given they were Taiwanese market units). Series 3 is better favored because they are the same as the Japanese units, meaning you can find surplus replacement parts easier & cheaper.

For the N16 Sentra models (2001-2010)

Today, the Philippines also uses the Sentra name for its version of the Pulsar. The N16 model is known as Nissan Sentra Exalta (available from 2001–2003). The early model is similar to JDM Bluebird Sylphy. Nissan Philippines introduced a model with new headlights and tail lights, the facelift model was later renamed back to Sentra or commonly referred to as N16 Generation 2 is the same as Sunny Neo in Thailand. The current N16 Sentras have QG series powerplants and are sold in three variants namely the 1.3L GX (QG13DE), GSX (QG16DE) and the top of the line GS(QG16DE).

I think the baby Altis you are referring to is the late 1999-2001 Corolla Altis which is basically the Corolla "lovelife" with extended bumpers and a few other extras (like rear sensors).

Wikipedia entry for Toyota Corolla E111

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Corolla_%28E110%29
The Philippines had 3 grades — the base 1.3 XL, the 1.3 XE and the 1.6 GLi, all launched around December 1997. The XE and GLI variants were given a facelift in 2000, and the name Corolla Altis (the name the Corolla in the Philippines bears now) was introduced for the new 1.8 top-of-the-line model. All were sold until mid-2001, except the XL. The XL came with a 2-spoke urethane steering wheel, wind-up windows, a 5-speed manual transmission, 13" steel wheels, no tachometer and no digital clock

As a used car, this is just an average choice. Positives for this model is plenty of spare parts, relatively easy to maintain and average fuel consumption. Downsides, tight interior space expecially rear seating, smallish trunk, puny brakes (tend to overheat quickly), soft rear suspension (rear suspension bottoms out if you have three average people in the back seat), and a plastic radiator (top part tends to blow up every 3-4 years but easy to find surplus replacement).

If you have no specific car preference, you might get a good deal with early Sentra GX units. You can find ads for 2003-2004 Nissan Sentra GX for around P200,000 in the buy and sell.

Although the engine is only a 1.3L, it is fuel injection. Being a newer car (than the typical choice of late 90s cars for your budget), it means less stuff to repair. Spare parts are easy enough to find & afford since this car model is also used as taxi cabs, rental cars and company fleet cars.

If you want to save more on fuel, you can have this car converted to Auto-LPG. So far, experiences with LPG conversions on this car is very positive. BTW, conversion to Auto-LPG means the car can run on either gasoline or LPG simply by pushing a button or a switch on the dashboard. Downside with Auto-LPG conversion is it reduces some trunk space because of the LPG fuel tank. It is safe as long as it is done through certified installers.
