I need your help! I want to buy a car. An SUV, actually. I attached pics coz , I'm actually not sure what year model they are, or what generation . I want your opinion regarding fuel efficiency, maintenance, easy access to parts, etc and of course the over all look/porma of the vehicle.
Note, I'm not buying the exact vehicle in the pic. I just want y'all to single out the make/year model of the vehicle I want. Here are my choices:
2nd generation 3-door pajero (imported from japan, so converted from RHD to LHD)
2nd generation din yata to, but i think it's called bubble top, not so sure. the models without the elevated roof on the rear part of the vehicle is newer. also, imported from Japan so converted din. both pajeros has 4D56 engine, 2.5 turbo diesel.
the Rav4 and CRV are 1st generations i think. silang dalawa naka gasoline engine.
though i can only tell you about the pajero 'cause we own one for almost 5 years.. 4d56 specifically. the mitsubishi 4D56 is one the most reliable diesels, with plentiful and cheap parts around. ang maganda din sa pajero e ladder chassis 4x4. it's a true 4x4. but at the same time it also has a lockable center differential so that you can use the 4wd on high speeds on paved roads. kasi if you use the conventional 4wd on a paved road at high speed, there is a possibility that you will damage the diffs if you turn, kasi naka lock ang front wheel sa rear wheels. so yan ang beauty ng pajero, very versatile. whether you're in the city or you tackle mud going to the mountains. plus very comfortable pa ang ride. you also get a suspension damper with settings hard, medium and soft, for your preference. the pajero never gave us major trouble. pero syempre meron ding mga flaws at first, kasi ganyan naman talaga majority ng mga converted vehicle. you should always bring a mechanic if you buy a car regardless of brand.
both Rav4 and CRV can also come with 4wd but basically you cannot use it for extreme conditions in the mountain. cause first of all it doesn't have a ladder chassis which may cause the body to twist kung dadaan ka sa irregular terrain, na "easing easy" lang pag dinaanan ng mga 4x4s with ladder type chassis. second it has an open center diff which doesn't at least lock the front to the rear wheels. kakailanganin mo rin kasing naka lock ang front and rear wheels if you come to pass a rough terrain, to deliver equal power on them.
BTW, you can use all-wheel-drive (like the rav4 and crv's) to give you more traction in wet conditions. for the pajero, this is if you choose the 4wd with open diff. on the other hand, locked center diff can be used to tackle rough terrains. (meron din mga 4x4 na walang lockable center diff, pero parang locked na rin yun pag ganun.)
but it all boils down to your needs. if you occasionally (or always) go to the mountain with rough terrains, the pajero could always take the beating. but if you only stay in the city, it's a toss between the rav4 and CRV.
i would prefer the 5-door pajero. it's more value for money than the other three. just bring with you your trusted mechanic to check on the converted pajero of its road worthiness.
but if you can stretch your budget a little bit,
i would recommend getting a 2001 Toyota Rav4. it's a locally available unit so it's not the converted type.
