Which brand of separates are known to be mellow and smooth particularly on the highs? I don't like brands which have highs that are to harsh or bright.

focal utopia. damn expensive, but you get what you pay for.

btw, 'brightness' is usually caused by equalization/treble levels not set to your taste, or possibly improper placement. while there are some separates with a reputation for being bright (like mb quart), in my personal experience a good equalizer cures any harshness.

Yes, I did hear the Focals. I really like its characteristics. But it is too expensive for me.

I have also heard the DLS. Type ko rin. Are these cheaper compared to the Focals?

How about Infinity? Can this brand be characterize as being mellow and smooth?

    Alpine?

    Boston Acoustics?

good call on the infinity brand. i used to have the infinity 'kappa' series and it was very, very good for the price. i definitely would not characterize the sound as overly bright. i would say that the mid + tweeter has very good range and excellent reproduction, especially for vocals.

I recommend Peerless separates installed in house by"The Source".

It has a very smooth, warm sound, its has crystal clear vocals and tweeters that sing not tweet. Stereo imaging is great. Way up high and in front if the windshield.
My equalizer & bass treble settings are flat in my car installed with Peerless separates.

You never get tired listening to these speakers
