Hi guys, my dad's friend is selling his 2001 316i silver bmw for 750K... It has a mileage of 14K... I currently own a 2007 black honda civic... if ever i decide to buy the bimmer, i have to give the civic to my brother... is it really worth buying this car? what about maintenance and gas consumption? any input about this car will be greatly appreciated!

The 2001 BMW 3 series is kinda cramp inside, especially at the rear seats when there is someone seated at the front seats.

The model 316 only has a 1.6L engine which makes the car under powered which is not a problem if you're driving alone or in traffic but frustrating when driven on the open road or with three or more people onboard.

I think the 2001 BMW 3 series has the yellow signal lights. It looks dated but a simple replacement of the signal lights to the clear version found on the 2002 model can make it look "fresher".

Consumption would be negligible but as for maintenance, well, it's a bimmer so deep pockets would be needed.

I'd keep the newer and cost effective Honda if I were you - much much practical in the long run. However there are some out there who still prefer the BMW badge and the prestige that is inherent.

'Brand is sometimes more important than new' as their certified pre-owned advertisement goes.

i say keep the FD if you're going to use this as a daily drive, not because of FC but due to maintenance for wear and tear. don't just rely on the odo reading. have a trusted technician who has worked with bimmers/euro cars check under the hood and suspension. as memphis said, you would really need deep pockets to keep one.

but if this would just be a weekend/coding car, just have the tech check for possible parts to be replaced and assess the damage. if you can afford it, go for it! a bimmer will always be a bimmer.

keep the FD. IMHO..a brand new car will go a long way as compared to a pre owned no matter what the badge is especially if you use it as a daily commute. But if you intend to use the bimmer as a weekend/coding/party car as like b.b. carlo said then it might be worth your while.

    BMW > Civic

Get the bimmer if you can afford the maintenance. If you're on the practical side keep the civic.

Should i buy this bimmer?
