BMW Philippines last week introduced a new variant of its X5 Sport Activity Vehicle: an armored variant dubbed the X5 Security which it claims to combine security features with dynamic driving performance.
The BMW X5 Security has been designed and engineered at the car firm’s Research and Engineering Center (FIZ) in Munich, Germany. Its special features and armoring are integrated in the car right from the beginning of the production process, ensuring optimum protection of areas and cavities not reached when retrofitting armored vehicles. It also ensures that the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle are preserved.
BMW claims considerable emphasis was placed on ensuring that the vehicle is indistinguishable from its non-armored counterpart.
Despite a slight increase in weight due to the armoring, BMW also claims that the X5’s dynamic driving qualities have not been compromised. The 4.4-liter eight-cylinder engine provides the same powerful and fast acceleration as the standard BMW X5 model. With 320 bhp on tap, the BMW X5 Security is said to be capable of zero to 100kph in 7.8 seconds and allows a top speed of 210kph (electronically limited).
The X5 Security is also equipped with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which gives the vehicle superior off road capabilities. In addition, the BMW X5 Security SAV comes with nearly all the passive safety attributes of the regular production model.
The BMW X5 Security can be serviced by all authorized BMW dealers
