hi Guys n Gals, tanong lang po sa mga may bagong Bimmer's with the latest Fuel saving system Start/Stop system...
how does it fare it Philippine road/traffic conditions?

in my understanding, sa 118D implementation. if u select Comfort mode , your A/C will continuosly run meaning the engine won't stop itself in traffic - thus no actual savings...

anyway would like to hear your own personal reviews of these ....

The AC will run in comfort mode but would the engine also be running? Maybe there is a modification to the standard AC system to hold extra high pressure freon to keep the AC cool longer even with the engine off?

The aircon is able to function even if the engine is not running. Same technology on the newer Lexus models.

i also noticed, that even if the a/c is on and engine is off..medyo mahina ang aircon..or i am seeing it as the compressor is off but the fan is just on. because after I sense the car is getting hotter inside, then suddenly the engine comes on.

another note: i really don't like the feeling of the car stopping and starting from time to time...hindi ba talaga masisira eto sa road condition natin sa pinas..its okay and understandable in countries were traffic is not so bad..but here in pinas...i feel masisira ang starter neto.

what I do...i just turn it off so continuous lang ang engine...the difference in fuel savings is not that big to be of concern.

    btw, unit is 320D

ser thanks for your update, mukhang ganun nga...ang compressor nya talaga ay mukhang mechanical powered lang (due to the fact umiinit sa loob pag-patay ang makina and lumalamig uli AC pag umandar na makina)...meaning with the engine running lang sya mag-engage di tulad ng sa tunay na hybrids
    that's electro/mechanical....

oo sa BMW in Phil heavy traffic mas ok siguro off mo muna feature na 'yan....and matipid na din naman sya to begin with...its a Diesel!

yung tinest drive ko naman na 2013 Mazda CX-5 AWD with I-Stop mukhang mas elegant ang system nya to re-start the engine fm. Idling stop condition....it relies on the remaining (trapped) combustion / pressure fm. the Cylinders where just squirting a small amount of fuel and proper sequencing the injection for the next cylinder...its able to re-start engine w/o the need for Starter Motor....

i was able to drive one, from what i noticed engine wasn't completely off. it was weird it felt like it was off but if you look at the rpm it was around .3-.5k also when it turns off then you step on the gas again and stop again it won't turn off. there's a time limit between each auto shut off. di siya totally kada stop mo mag activate. had the car for 3 days while i had our 3 series serviced here in the states that's why i got a brand new 3 series, fuel consumption is a lot better compared to the previous 3 series.
