A former colleague in my previous employ is mulling on buying a 1972 BMW 2002tii (turbo version) which is pretty getting to be rare. I accompanied him (actually my kumpare) to test drive the car and it was in really good condition, body and engine.

After researching on this car, we found out that this car (and parts) is getting to be very rare. The upside is the value of this car tends to go up in the future. The downside is the parts availability. One has to order abroad. My kumpare intends to make this his toy week-end car only so the day-to-day wear and tear is minimized.

I'm getting to be very jaded about bimmers so I would like to get a more objective opinion. If you're in his shoes, will you buy this car?

if I have the money to buy and "maintain" the car sure I'll buy it.

To be able to buy it is one thing, having the means to maintain it is a different story.

I love the 2002, if it's a Turbo mas rare nga... If you're a BMW fanatic (which I know you are), I'll take it...

Pero syempre nasa condition din yan.

just make sure that the numbers match and that it's really a turbo model, not just a replica. I almost bought a "ti" model a few years ago but good thing i did some research and found out that the car was mixed-match and assembled from several 2002s.

nope, its not me buying. i'm happy with my E30 as it is.

the owner of the car imported the car directly from europe three years ago. my friend, the buyer, happened to have had a business deal with the seller. they'll talk about the price this weekend.

The BMW2002 in the picture is not the tii turbo version though. The one in the pic is the 1.6liter version.

The car we test drove is the 1972 2002tii 2.0liter version. all the trims, upholstery, ceiling, sidings and stereo are kept in very good condition. all are up to specs of the 2002tii model. the stereo/radio suck though! the handling and engine hum is still very good.

the mags of the 2.0liter turbo version is the bbs typeD (meshwire) with centerhub emblem and the rear emblem says 2002tii (denoting the turbo spec).

If you're a real beemer fanatic with the means to maintain it, then its a buy.

But if you want a more practical toy car... then look for an M3 or mod up a 3 series/5 series.

BMW 2002 tii is not a turbo version. It is just a 2002 with fuel injection instead of carburators.

The correct designation is 2002 Turbo. It has a 2.0 liter engine with Kugelfischer Fuel mechanical fuel injection and a turbo.

These are very limited. They come in two colors only--- silver and white. They have a rear pre 1971 bumper but no front bumper because of the front spoiler. They also hadve a rear spoiler and wheel arch extensions to accomodate wider wheels(6x13 rims similar to E21 but different offset). The BBS-Mahle cross-wire alloy (mesh) are not originally fitted but instead a BMW Bottle Top wheel come as a factory option but very few have these type.

Some obvious visual clues apart from the above mentioned are the Turbo Logos on the body as well as the reverse image Turbo logo in the front spoiler. Also the rear tail lights are square instead of round.
