I finally got to fix that cat scratch I got on my hood last month with some good old #83.

    Before:

    After:

    I topped #83 with some Carlack68 NSC. A day later, I put on a coat of #26.

...but crap... just today, I saw that stupid cat lurking again.... kainis.

    Hi guys, especially madkatz hehe.

boss ess, nice job! i saw that the #83 is a dual action cleaner/polish right? ano po ang equivalent nito sa mothers or any OTC brand na newbies like me are more familiar with? how much clear coat po ang mawawala by using this, if any?

and also, kakabili ko lang ng megs swirlX pero di ko pa nagagamit. pwede rin po ba ito sa mga light scratches or hailrline-like scratches or pang swirls lang talaga? how often can i use swirlx? every quarter? 2x a year? yearly? can i make it part of a regular, say, quarterly regimen, or should i use it just when deemed necessary? thanks!

Yes, the #83 is a dual action cleaner polish. One of Meg's older (but still reliable) products.

How much clear it removes? I can't say exactly how much, since I don't have a paint gauge :D. But this I can say -- I've been using #83 at least twice a year for 6 years since my car rolled out the casa.

How aggressive #83 gets depends on a lot of factors -- what machine you use (ROP or Rotary), what speed you use, and what pad you use.

For my car's legendary soft honda paint, I stick with a finishing pad, with my rotary set to 600rpm and never higher than 900rpm.

    RE: equivalent OTC
If you're not going to use a machine, then the SwirlX you've just purchased will be perfect. It should get rid of cobwebbing and minor blemishes. It may not completely remove hairline scratches, but it will smoothen out the edges of those scratches to make them less noticable (i.e. only you and the people who post at this forum will get to see those scratches.. :D )

With proper use, I would say twice a year would be safe.

May alam kayo magaling sa pintura kotse na hindi casa para makita ko habang ginagawa?

    Question:
Kailangan ko ba lagyan ng Cleaner Wax ang paint prior to waxing for the wax to bond properly? Pansin ko kasi, saglit lang tinatagal ng wax sakin.

*mj09: for me #83 would be like a little more aggressive version of both SwirlX and Mothers Power Polish, as for the amount of clear coat it removes, that depends on how much pressure you apply.

SwirlX can be used for those paint defects that you mentioned, for deeper scratches and swirls you might need a second application or more pressure, as for when it could be used i would recommend that you only used it when needed since honestly you can't totally maintain your car swirl free and you might need it again, so i guess once a year would also be good.

*mj09:Same with Ess, #83 for me is also one of the keepers in my polish book, true its old but its still very versatile, you could see the remarkable difference with the pads that you use and the finish is very clear and pretty much swirl free already so you don't need a finishing polish to top it up.

Actually the 83 once applied via machine is actually less aggressive than the SwirlX but since you would be using SwirlX via hand the factors like pressure and work time really does count, with moderate to heavy pressure it can be more aggressive than #83 due to its non expending abrasives, but SwirlX is still very much noob proof and the long working time makes it better for beginners, so whether you need to apply it once, twice or even thrice a year, just always start light and don't get too excited to remove every defect you see, you might end up clearing up a lot in the process of getting that prefect finish only to be marred or swirled by an acccident especially if you have lurking cats around, right Ess? hahaha

*Chikselog: Well if you're comparing it to what waxes claim that their waxes can last for how many months well sadly thats the scenario in other countries not ours, our weather here is really bad, as for if you're comparing it to how i gauge durability a lot of things could be a factor like how you maintain the car, with even the good OTC's and average maintenance the most you could get is about a month, if it comes to shine being gone, that depends on the wax, that the exact reason why boutique waxes are much much more expensive, because their shine stays longer after more washes, but to answer your question, i would say why not give it a try? if you need cleaner wax just let edwin know he might have some spare for you, i usually use cleaner waxes whenever i applied a layer of collinite or sealant before, with these kind of waxes and sealants you really need cleaner waxes to remove them properly in order for the next wax to bond properly to the paint, but if you are using the exact same wax thats topped, there should be no problem with it bonding to the paint.

I see. Last week lang kasi kakadetail ko lang ng step 3, yet parang di na siya makintab (or di lang talaga makintab ang step3). Mine-maintain ko siya by using NanoSLIQ every other day, or sometimes everyday after dusting off.

BTW, when is your next detailing session/seminar? Hehe, is the one it Katipunan will push through?

*chickselog: Actually Step 3 is a shiny wax, but i noticed that it does lose its shine a little faster than some OTC, Step 3 is actually one of the best waxes for your paint color, Why not try to compare it with Nano Glos? or if you and edwin meet again, why not ask him to slap on some other wax for you so that you can compare which one lasts longer.

As for the detailing seminar, we might conduct one on wednesday and thursday, we had to re-schedule the saturday and sunday because i had to attend a wedding at batangas this coming saturday which is overnight until sunday, the one on wednesday and thursday will be held at my Bf's place since its much easier there, im sure he has far less waxes than i have but im quite sure you would have a lot of options to play around and explore which wax is best for you, same scenario, just try to be there early so we can cover more topics, as for the in-depth exterior detailing, that might have to be moved since the ferrari and the infinity is only available on weekends, i hope it pushes through since you would really notice the difference it paint workability thickness and quality as compared to most OEM paints

I see. Yup you're right it does lose it shine faster, but it's still slick kapag nadidikit ako sa paint hehe. In terms of shine and gloss I think the winner would be the NanoGLOS. Iba ang kintab nung ginamit ko eh hehe.

May I join too? Hehe, sabay tayo sir jmpet. Thing is, my dad will be using the civic so I can't bring it. But I'll tell ya it's really neglected. There's not much clearcoat left (sobrang nipis di ko na makita ang clear image ng mukha ko pag tinignan ko) and some parts are already cracked. Siguro hanggang "lecture" lang muna ako dahil wala akong sariling old car hehe.

Can i use NanoSliq as lubricant for claying? If not, what would you recommend aside from Mother's or Megs QD.

*madkatz-what time will be the detailing seminar of sir edwin tomorrow? His place is in Caloocan, right?

Pwede yung zymol detail na spray wax. Around 150 lang siya. Recently na try ko water at microtex shampoo pero aftewards dapat i wash ulit yung panels.

Sa tigin ko ang mas cost effective na Clay lube is yung Optimum No rinse since pwede siya ma dilute, 2oz ng ONR is good for a gallon of clay lube. Nakaka 2 zymol detail na ako at 1 mothers showtime sa half bar ng mothers clay bar.

*jmpet626 - thanks for the reply. San nabibili yun zymol? I've read ok nga daw yun ONR, kaso hindi naman available locally. Safe ba yun ilagay sa door to door kung ipabili sa US?

*madkatz - sir edwin texted me last night regarding the detailing seminar, I haven't replied yet. I might not be able to attend, I'll be accompanying my son to his therapy session today.
