Succinctly, moonroofs, of both standard and panoramic size, are a sub-set of sunroof.

Originally, sunroofs were a single panel, matching the material of the car roof.

Moonroofs are glass, and see through, and are coupled with a sunshade when sunlight is not desired in the car cabin. And yes, most sunroofs and moonroofs have the ability to be opened.

Hyundai Sta Fe 2024, dual moonroof. First row, manual sunshade but glass can be opened (motorized). Second row, glass is fixed but sunshade can be opened (motorized).
