ok lang yon - the cooling system of your car/vehicle won't be efficient - puwede yan no aircon and don't race your engine (hi rpm). Kung walang traffic and gabi naman no problem yan. PLUS if he was watching his temp gauge na hindi magredline ok lang.

When you said, "biglang tumaas sobra yung temp," how high was it exactly? Did it boil over? Kung hindi naman, then you should be fine. No caps or even defective ones lowers your cooling system's efficiency very drastically, as what you've just experienced. But if you didn't overheat, then just buy a new cap and rest easy. ;)

I had this bad experience before sa previous mekaniko ko. When I had him do something with the car, and I picked it up after office hours, I immediately drove the car pauwi. Na notice ko na lang when I was already halfway home (around 20 kms na tinakbo), umuusok na ang harapan ng sasakyan ko, but when I checked the temp gauge at midpoint naman. I immediately parked the car, and opened the hood, lo and behold the radiator cap was not properly put on. Naubosan na pala ako ng tubig. What I did was that I placed water (mdyo nagiispill nga e). I don't know if it was the right thing to do during that time, pero nagpapanic na ako coz medyo madilim na na lugar yun and walang masyadong katao tao. The following day I talked to the stupid mechanic, and he admitted it. Sad for him he lost a customer because of what he did.

Pero one thing I notice lang is that jeepney drivers here do not place a radiator cap sa mga sasakyan nila. They just refill water from time to time.

let the car cool down first before adding water otherwise magkaroon ng thermal shock iyun engine at possible mag crack ang engine block...

but it I think your case should be alright since umaandar naman kotse mo, obserbahan mo na lang.

The adverse effects of running without your radiator cap, you've already experienced.

The cooling system is designed to run under pressure.

This is the reason why you should not fill the coolant reservoir completely since once the mixture heats and expands in your system, the excess will go to the reservoir and once things cool a bit, it sucks the excess back into the system.

This will not work effectively if there is no pressure.

Replace your missing cap as soon as possible and be careful to avoid the same situation in the future.

    Hope this helps.

Buy a new radiator cap.

Radiator caps also acts as a pressure relife valve. It also increases your coolants boiling point to around 126 Celcius. Here is the explanation:

if it doesn't exhibit any weird behavior then it should be ok.

theory: kung bakit kailangan pressure tight ang engine cooling system (that includes the rad cap). plain water and at atmospheric pressure will boil sa 100 deg C, raising the pressure will raise the boiling point (boyle's law ba un or charle's law he he forgot ko na). kaya kailangan pressurize ang system and adding coolant will also raise the boiling point.
