Hey There!
I've got a Sanden (TRS090 I presume) compressor from a City '04 that seems to have a bearing issue. May ugong na sound tuwing nakaengage ang compressor and when you rev the engine. It started maybe 3 weeks ago.
The noise is annoying, but the aircon is performing perfect. No sign of giving way aside from the annoying noise. Diagnosed twice by different persons, one said it was a "balancer" while another said it was bearing. Never heard of a balancer before so the bearing was more convincing.
Either way, it will require a pulldown of the compressor with a perfectly working aircon system. Would cost at least 1,500 for labor, around 800 for freon charging, and possibly a thousand more for a few more stuff (bearing replacement, compressor oil, additional labor for opening up the compressor).
QUESTIONS:
1. I understand the clutch / pulley has a bearing there and I am hoping that it's just that because it's a more commonly repaired part, possible rin ba that it's a bearing inside the compressor itself? How complicated can it get? I've only experienced a compressor na sealed type before, pero from what I know Sandens are commonly opened up and are generally easier to repair?
2. Can anyone recommend a shop who has the right tools / workshop that specializes in this kind of work? Within Metro Manila... Had a nightmare before kung saan kinatay sa harap ko ang compressor ng isa pang sasakyan without the proper equipment... I'm eying maybe EEB Aire in QC (not sure if they do this type of work) or Maxicon in BF (but it's too far), so might call them tomorrow.
3. Is it OK to keep using it for the meantime? For how long? Like I said, the aircon works perfectly right now. One thing I don't like tampering with the compressor is it sometimes bring more problems lalo na pag binuksan na. Talagang may unpleasant na ugong.
4. Will it damage the whole compressor if used for a prolonged period?
Thanks for all who's read and will reply to this.I would appreciate first hand experiences too! I'm really confused and I'm hesitant to have this repaired for obvious reasons.

1. The bearing is in the compressor pulley itself. There is a pulley removal tool at all air con shops.
2. Always have my aircon serviced at Exalta in Banawe. Cheap labor, complete tools and decent service.
3. The bearing is located in the outer part of the compressor.
4. Eventually it will. The noise will get worse.
While you're at it, if you haven't had your AC cleaned, might be a good time to do so. Replace the expansion valve and drier. And install an AC filter if your car has a provision for it.

Thank you for your responses guys. Called a few shops, might have it repaired nearby but the bearing was priced at P1,900. Hopefully makatawad!

So it turns out the compressor was beyond repair. Internal parts na, hindi yung sa pulley. Ang difference nung sa pulley, kahit hindi nakaengage yung compressor maingay parin. Yung akin, pag nakaengage lang. Had to replace it which is a shame because it was still cooling fine. However they said if I had let it work like that then I would have risked damaging the condenser too (if the oil turned black as mentioned).
Had it done at EEB Aire this afternoon, work was just a little less than 3 hours, didn't replace my drier, expansion valve and no cleaning involved though, but the aircon is cold and works like a charm. I recommend this shop. Reasonably priced, good workmanship.

July 26th, 2013 03:03 AM #9Am afraid it is stucked up na. In a scroll type compressor kapag yung internal bearing ang nasira most probably if not all the time the scroll blades will be damaged na din. Yung parang thin brown/black gaskets nya will be worn out. and eventually magkakaron ng metal to metal contact na sa stationary part ang rotating scroll blades.
*** The most of the time culprit is kapag masipag kayong magpalinis ng AC tapos hindi nag top up ng refrigerant oil sa compressor, dun nadadali ang compressor. Everytime the AC system is being vaccuum the lubricant in the compressor is partially nasuck up din. It's still a rotating mechanical parts that needs special type of lubrication. Kaya nangitim yung oil there is because of the worn out aluminum metal and the thin film gaskets. I've had cars who never had a general AC cleaning for 10years and still working fine (regular filter cleaning lang), but yung other car sa family namin na malimit ipa AC cleaning..within 6 years bumigay na ang compressor, turns out konting konti na lang pala ang refrigerant oil nung i-open up ang compressor (Sanden).

kung magpapapalit kayo bearing ng ac clutch kailangan handa kayo sa worst case scenario. kadalasan pag tanggal ng bearing dun mo makikita na may tama na din ang hub (you need a new compressor). kadalasan pa nga pag tanggal ng bearing sumasama na yun hub
