i recently had my ee90's aircon checked -- in typical ironic fashion, ung problems ng aircon na ayaw umandar/lumamig for so many years, e sobrang lamig naman ngayon

sabi ng shop, sira daw ung thermostat, and that a replacement is hard to find. suggestion niya is to use another thermostat. meron daw silang ilalagay na knob sa loob ng car, which would be dangling somewhere below the steering wheel, with which i could control the temperature with.

advisable po ba to, or should i try to look for a thermostat na talagang para dun sa kotse? alam kong medyo pangit tignan kung ung workaround ang gagawin, pero personally i don't mind.

That's up to you. I would just have it done right the first time, rather than have it rigged as a temporary fix, but that's just me.

Wala ba sa Banawe used parts? Kung common yung sasakyan mo I doubt kung mahirap maghanap. May pic ka ba of the part that's wrong? Is this the thermostat dial in the cabin? Or more of something in the engine that controls how cold you want it to be?

that will be fine and much better than the original, just make sure it is installed properly and not just dangling under the dash.. possible that your thermostat before is the RESISTIVE type, what was replaced to your unit is the ANALOG type... I also did that to my kia carnival, eventhough its RESISTIVE thermostat is functioning, I opted to install an ANALOG type thermostat since it is easier to control and much more efficient than the RESISTIVE type thermostat.. with analog thermostat you can adjust your temperature per your preference so that the aircon compressor disengages (on/off cycle) frequently unlike with a resistive thermostat, your aircon compressor is engaged until it reached -5deg Celsius (evaporator temp)..

    Bords Dennis,

Iba naman ang thermostat ng cooling system (which is connected to the thermostat housing inflow from radiator to engine water jackets) and ang thermostat for the aircon (rotary, analogue, etc.) Two different animals.

BTW have encountered almost the same problem as you bro. I suggest do it right na lang one time, kesa tipirin mo babalik balik ka rin. Trust me ang hirap bro, waste of time and money talaga. I have threads relating to this before. The thermostat that would be dangling sa baba ng dashboard mo bro would be a constant source of irritation, sa akin naputol na lang kaya I had to make it done right, the cost was almost the same na lang din naman (see my thread Aircon Rekta).

i think the mechanic meant it as a permanent fix; i think it should be simple enough to mount the knob permanently on the dash with some mounting tape

    It is your call bro.

As for me, I'd rather look for a used part at Banaue or Evangelista so that I can just replace the one in my vehicle.

    Good luck!

    have your thermostat checked first...
dont know for your car... but for a civic kelangan buksan yung evaporator before doing it... kaya lagay nanaman ng freon...

this also happend to me... naghanap ako sa banawe ng aircon thermostat ng civic wala... they offer me the manual type... punta ko sa honda qave ayun 650 lang... mas mura pa dun sa manual thermostat na local...

however after installing the new thermostat hindi parin nawala yung porblem... (problem sakin is nag yeyelo yung upper(?) hose ng aircon)... so if your tight with your budget make sure na yung thermostat talaga... else goodbye 650 hello diagnostics...

btw, anyone encountered same problem ???

paps yung yelo pwedeng sa condenser din ang problem nyan, baka may barado. Pero normally sa thermostat ang problem pag ganyan. Palinis mo yung condenser mo at pacheck yung fan kung malakas pa ang buga.

aircon thermostat "workaround" -- advisable ba?
