question regarding radiator reservoir ng frontier??

guys good evening..

i have a 2000 model frontier 4x4, pupunta kaming baguio this christmas so i did some fluid checking ng engine... all was normal naman... it was recently changed oil lang ...but then decided to clean the radiator reservoir.. may napansin lang akong parang black carbon like substance sa loob ng reservoir ko... hindi naman siya langis kasi nasa ilalim siya eh tsaka nung hinawakan ko.. hindi siya madulas.. similar to a black gulaman , parang black thing na lumalabas sa tambutso niya pag pinapa pressure wash ko yung exhaust...

normal po ba ito or theres something wrong? the pickup is totally working fine naman... wala akong nararamdaman sa kanya... one more quearry... yung auxillary fan ng pickup which is not the fanbelt driven, hindi ko pa nakitang umandar... pero pag nirerekta yung fan sa battery... ok naman? the mechanic sa casa said it will only go once it reaches a certain temperature??? true po ba talaga yun?

well just an update.... hindi makatulog noh...:D, the black gulaman thing is not actually carbon... i found out that a large deposit of that thing is lodged inside the hose that connects the radiator to the reservoir... its some sort of lumot... inamoy ko(wala naman amoy)...ngayun lalo na ako nag taka... nilulumot ba talaga yun?? sinilip ko din ang radiator and i cant see anything there aside from water... will try to drain the rediator tomorrow... medyo inaantok narin...

hehehe...samahan na kita sa pagpupuyat...yes nilulumot yan kasi may water and heat, yun reservoir nga nagbabago ang kulay dahil sa lumot. constant cleaning will help.

the "black gulaman" is old radiator coolant. have your cooling system or at least the radiator flushed.

atleast may peace of mind na ako regarding bakit may gulaman sa loob ng radiator ko.. hehehehe....

did drain the radiator... meron ngang mga lumabas na lumot/old coolant parin... sana lumabas na silang lahat... thanks talaga....

isa nalang concern ko.. yung aux dc fan ko nalang... talaga bang nag aactivate lang siya pag may na reach siyang certain temp?(as what the mechanic at nissan southwoods said). yung ibang car kasi pag on mo ng aircon nag on narin yung fan ..wala naman issue on overheat... nagtataka lang ako....

Dapat synchronized ang auxiliary fan once nag on ang a/c compressor mo.
Now kung hindi naman lumalagpas ng halfway ang temp gauge (considering
working ito) no need to worry.

I think the lumot is called sludge or scale formation. I think its common to liquids that are subjected to high heat. Its similar to your water kettle, boil water several times and you will see a build up inside your kettle. Its from the minerals in the water.

IMO best to have your radiator cleaned.

yes sir... below halfway lang ang temps na nakikita ko sa temp guage... no idea narin kung reliable yung temp guage ng frontier... pero no signs of overheat naman... malamig din ang aircon... hindi tumitirik... normal na normal po talaga.... pero this is the first time na nakakita nga ako ng aux fan na hindi ko pa nakitang umandar...any other frontier owners out there?? tanung ko lang po kung yung aux fan nyo po ba eh umaandar???

meron din siyang scale formation sa reservoir pero siya yung parang tartar ng ngipin.. yung parang calcium deposit sa mga kettle... pero iba yung gulaman thing eh... malambot... para talagang gulaman...

will using distilled water deter the lumot formation?

If it is scale formation then distilled water should help prevent it. Distilled water is supposed to have no mineral content.

I'm not sure if it is indeed scale formation. There are several types of scale. Most common yung mukhang tartar. Pero may nakita nako dati parang uhog minsan parang slime ewan ko lang yung iyong black gulaman.

yup para siyang slime na black.... siguro nga scale na siya... atleast im at peace na ,na its not coming from any part of my engine...
