Finding an affordable EV in the Philippines usually means choosing between two extremes: either a tiny city car with limited space, or a larger hatchback or crossover that quickly pushes past the ₱1-million mark.
That’s where the new GAC Aion UT tries to carve out its own niche.
Now officially on sale in the Philippines, the Aion UT is a fully electric hatchback priced at ₱998,000 (during its introductory promo period). While compact enough for city driving, it’s noticeably larger than smaller EVs like the BYD Seagull, while also undercutting bigger EV hatchbacks such as the BYD Dolphin in price.
Despite the sub-₱1M pricing, GAC says the Aion UT was designed as a “proper” five-seater with comfort and passenger space in mind. Built on a dedicated EV platform, the company claims it offers 905 mm of rear legroom — enough for three adults to sit comfortably in the back, plus 440L of cargo space.
The Aion UT is powered by a single electric motor producing 136 hp and 145 Nm of torque, paired with a 47.1-kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. GAC claims a driving range of up to 400 km on a single charge. For buyers worried about charging times, the hatchback also supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to recharge from 30% to 80% in around 24 minutes.
Inside, the cabin gets an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 14.6-inch touchscreen that handles infotainment and vehicle settings. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard.
The Aion UT also comes equipped with several advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and a 360-degree camera system.
Styling-wise, the Aion UT leans more playful and youthful vibes with cool colors as Rococo White, Emerald Green, Seine Silver, Champs-Elysees Beige, and a two-tone Rococo White + Emerald White finish.
Official pricing is set at ₱1,048,000, though GAC Philippines is currently offering a ₱50,000 introductory discount until June 30, bringing the price down to ₱998,000. An additional ₱20,000 discount is also available for the first 400 customers.
