Volkswagen PH planning 2021 launch for Tharu / Taos | Autoindustriya

To give an idea about the size, the Tharu is 4.45 meters long, so it's in between the Geely Coolray (4.33 meters) and the larger Ford Territory (4.58 meters).
In terms of market position, the Tharu will slot right above the newly-launched T-Cross but will not exactly fill the space once occupied by the now discontinued Tiguan. It's worthy to note that while the Tharu is larger than the T-Cross, it's still significantly smaller than the long-wheelbase Tiguan that VW got from SAIC.

The mid-variant in China (with ADAS) is priced at about 1.4M pesos. AC Motors doesn't scrimp on features so it looks likely that we will be getting the Tharu at around 1.5M, with a base variant probably in the high 1.3M or low 1.4M range.

Anything above 1.5M for a compact crossover is probably unrealistic so it will be interesting to see how the new AC Motors CEO will strategize Volkswagen sales and marketing in the Philippines.

2024 Volkswagen Tharu Priced Starting At P 1.8M | CarGuide

The Volkswagen Tharu will be available in two variants—the 300 TSI DSG SE priced at around P 1.8 and top-of-the-line 300 TSI DSG SEL at P 1.95 million.

Both variants feature a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with BlueMotion tech. This outputs 160 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. It hooks up to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic driving the front wheels.

You can get a much larger Ford Territory (also made in China like the Tharu) with all the same features as the base model for about half a million less. The Subaru Crosstrek, which is roughly the same size as the Tharu is just a few dozen thou more expensive but is an AWD and probably drives much much better than this VW.

^ I wonder why isn't VW PH offering VW EVs locally.

Do they think people are excited with their local line-up?
