I don't mind whatever tag. I'm digging, recalling reasons I remained....Bisdaks are really the promdi epitome....simple, warm, genuine, never lording. Mediocrity is fine.... it's a very good camouflage.

Me thinks this guy just stayed in the city and never traveled to the outlying municipalities. Lots of tourist spots in the province. Also it's a jump off point for folks to other islands that also have attract tourists like Bohol and Camotes Island.

Also notable is Cebu’s North American heritage, as the Philippines was a de facto U.S. colony from 1898 to 1935. The native culture is still very much its own, but there are more superficial markers of U.S. cultural influence in Cebu, and in the Philippines more generally, than in almost any other emerging economy. There are lots of fast food restaurants, American casual dress is widespread, and basketball is much beloved.

That's the entire Philippines. I don't get why he thinks it's only in Cebu.

Oo nga, I read the article and "typical" was not used negatively, but just as a descriptor of what the average city in the world is, and Cebu fits the bill. Not too rich, not too poor, not too modern, not too backward, mix of Asian, American, and European influence, mix of urban and rural.
