Regular cabs vs. Uber at the same rates? Goodbye cabs.

Listened to the interview earlier on the news - taxis aren't asking for the same rates, just the same fare algorithm.
They concede that TNCs will charge a premium, but they are lobbying for adjusted rates to be able to raise the operational standards of regular taxis.
If you've ever talked to a taxi driver, you know that they have to toil over 12 hours a day just to take home ~P500, net of boundaries and fuel costs. Making things worse are capitalist franchisers who secure their profits at all costs, leaving the drivers on the vulnerable end with some of them not making any money if they get stuck in traffic the entire day.
In the same way that bus drivers have been driven to become madmen on the road because of the boundary system, taxi drivers have resulted to pseudo-robbery via patong in order to make ends meet.
Unfortunately, the LTFRB is doing a piss-poor job of regulating abuses and holding taxi operators accountable for poor services. So while increasing rates to make it economically viable for more taxi drivers is a necessary step towards improving the taxi industry, it's not sufficient unless the government can step up to the same level of quality control as Uber/Grab.

September 14th, 2017 12:57 PM #347If the taxi drivers needs at least 12 hours a day to take home ~P500, why not they just change their job. maybe maging family driver, delivery truck driver (4 wheel trucks). Sa loob ng 12 hours or less may sure na sila take home na P500, hinde pa sila pagod kaka drive buong araw.
ang nakikita ko na problema ng mga relatives ko na may family drivers or truck drivers is mejo mareklamo yun mga driver, gusto sundo hatid lang ng mga anak and amo na regular na ginagawa, pag may extra na papa hatid/sundo naka simangot na. yun mga truck driver is to drive the truck lang ayaw tumulong sa pahinante mag unload/load ng karga. pag pinag overtime na paid naman dami din reklamo.
we all know na sablay talaga ang palakad ng government, some is due to monetary reasons within the agency. pero i think we should also start within ourselves din in a way.

3 - 4 family driver/body guard at a time namin noon (ex military) sa davao and cdo. Wala naman reklamador sa kanila. In fact, kami pa mga bata (and sometimes my mom) reklamo kasi grabe masyado strict at di na kami pwede maglaro after school hours.

So when you look at the **** caused by taxis and buses, it basically points at operators whom the LTFRB fail to manage.
Actually, military men as close in security are generally disciplined and low key (at least in what i have encountered before) unlike the hired goons who act as body guards. I guess drivers are also much like househelp nowadays, rare to find disciplined, hard working and loyal ones as those who are capable really do look to go abroad it seems.
