i try to avoid the rear of small jets bec. normally all the baggages are placed in the rear. usually, that's where a fire starts i.e. from belongings of passengers. or possibly, that's where terrorist smuggle bombs or guns. usually, the first ones who get shot are the 1st ones they see.

fore over the aft section for me. aviation fuel are stored in the entire wing. during ditching or crashlanding, fire could always be simultaneous therefore all the passengers behind the wing will absorb all the flames and torture. thats why first class and executive class are located up front.
disintegrating while on flights is a different story.

x2. When a pilot has to ditch his plane, he dumps his entire load of fuel, to prevent a fire upon impact.
The statistics for higher mortality from being in the front of the plane is mostly from crash landings... When you're sitting in front of the wing, there's less plane in front of you to absorb the impact... and the nose section often breaks off, scattering people to and fro.
The rear end also has a chance of breaking off, but the tons of metal in front of your seat has already absorbed the impact. If you're lucky and your seat doesn't rip off the floor or a piece of shrapnel doesn't impale you where you sit, you have a pretty good chance of surviving.
Even when the plane bursts into flames, it's not the number one cause of death... the fuel is spilled in a trail that extends far behind the plane. The plane doesn't exactly smack into ground and sit in one spot. When it does that, everyone is usually dead, period.
The chances of survival would be even better if all the passengers were seated facing backwards. Then the seats themselves would act as impact cushions, and the impact trauma would be much lower.
