for bangkok trips, i suggest you take PAL because of better departure and arrival times compared to cebupac/thai.

if you plan to go shopping, there are 3 star hotels like baiyoke sky, indra regent, first hotel that are walking distance to shopping malls/tiangge.

sir with regards to shopping, there's a weekend market they call. and literally it's only open on fridays and saturdays. (when were there) food is ok, mostly like filipino dish though some of the foods are real spicy. with the transportation, get a map upon arriving at the airport (it's free), you could easilly follow the train sched and route. but if you want, taxi would be the best there's a mall in downtown bangkok where you could buy cooked food (it's at the ground floor, foods are put in banana leaves and they sell it by the kilo) and buy pasalubong which is tamarind. JUst be carefull with your belongings sir, even in your hotel room, don't leave any valuables.)

agree on MBK ( Mah Boong Krung ) ... air-conditioned and cheap prices .

then cross the street to Siam Paragon and ogle the Ferraris and Lamborghinis on display

    touristy things to go/do:

ride a river taxi to the temple of dawn and the royal palace.
go to Patpong for some shopping
make a day trip to Ayutthaya or Pattaya
