they have the international tourists to patronize them, if the gov't is concerned about the tourism industry, they should help them by promoting the philippines internationally. . .ang hina ng pilipinas on this department. . .di naman papaiwan ang mga beaches and natural wonders natin compared with our asian neighbors, but they get more tourists than us

when filipino families have extra money to spend on vacations and leisure activities elsewhere, we won't need long weekends to get their arse out of their homes . . .they will find the time

Malacañang declares August 30 a holiday

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang has declared August 30, National Heroes' Day, a holiday.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda made the announcement on Friday morning.

The declaration was made after Malacañang reviewed Proclamation 1841 signed by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declaring the regular holidays, special (non-working) days and special holidays for schools for the year 2010.

Arroyo had previously set the schedule for holidays this year to allow businesses to adjust schedules and promote productivity.

Lacierda said the holidays will be reviewed on a case-to-case basis similar to President Benigno Aquino III's decision declaring August 21 a holiday in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day, instead of August 23 as provided for in Proclamation 1841.

He said the Aquino administration is not trying to repeal the holiday economics law, which requires that most holidays, except those with religious significance, be shifted to the nearest Monday.

“That law itself provides for the President to modify or change the holidays. He is empowered to do so, under that law,” the spokesman said.

He said, however, that declaring fewer holidays on Mondays is good for business since it improves productivity.

Based on the proclamation, there will be two more long weekends this year after the holidays were moved to the nearest Monday. Bonifacio Day will be celebrated on November 29 instead of November 30, and Rizal Day will be celebrated on December 27 instead of December 30.
