True. A Ferrari V12 that could produce 500HP needs fuel in order to do so. It doesn't make 500HP all by itself.
We may have raw talent, raw materials, raw everything. But I prefer my resources cooked, on a capital-fueled stove. Because resources are useless as it is, we must find some way to utilize them.
If you had a great idea, you'd spend time and money on it in order to see it in action. If you didn't have the time and money, you find someone who did. Otherwise, you wouldn't progress past the "great idea" stage. Which sort of defeats the purpose of having a great idea in the first place.Last edited by Alpha_One; August 2nd, 2007 at 10:48 AM.

Asean urged to beat economic powerhouses
By Ma. Elisa P. Osorio
Thursday, August 23, 2007 The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) must work together as a region in order to beat economic powerhouses such as India and China in the global offshore and outsourcing services.
“With the ASEAN Member Countries’ potentials, the region is seen to emerge as a key center for offshore delivery service and we hope that, with our current effort towards regional integration, ASEAN would be able to establish a global footprint for its share in the offshore outsourcing market,” Trade Undersecretary Elmer C. Hernandez said at yesterday’s preparatory meeting for the 39th ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting on Friday.
According to Hernandez, a recent study of the global Information Communication Technology (ICT) research and advisory firm XMG said that “ASEAN countries could emerge as strong contenders to India and China for the share of the global offshore and outsourcing services if they act as a single market.”
Hernandez said the Canadian-based XMG reported that ASEAN member countries tend to out-compete each other for a slice in the global market. This has resulted in the ASEAN countries having “fairly similar trading capabilities” instead of developing complementary roles for regional integration.
“As a result, most economic efforts driven by the ASEAN government tends to cancel each other out and there are no emerging complementarities in these efforts that will encourage regional integration,” Hernandez told ASEAN representatives.
Hernandez stressed that it is vital for the ASEAN as a region to capitalize on the growing demand for outsourcing services. Coupled with the increased need in outsourcing, Hernandez said, are the new challenges to meet the demand.
Global companies are looking for locations that have three characteristics – financial attractiveness; people and skills availability; and business environment.
Of the best offshore locations, ASEAN member countries occupy four of the top 10 slots. These are Malaysia which ranked third; followed by Thailand which is number four; Indonesia, sixth; and Philippines, eighth
In spite of this, Hernandez said improvements are still necessary specifically in terms of language.
Hernandez pointed out that outsourcing service providers must stop focusing on Europe and the US as the ultimate partner as these markets are already getting saturated.
Instead, business process outsourcing (BPO) companies must start looking closer to home. At present, there are few outsourcing providers with a presence in all ASEAN countries with capabilities not only in English but also various Asian languages.
The ASEAN outsourcing industry is very competitive in the animation industry. Cost of production in the ASEAN is 30 percent lower than the ones made in the United States. Medical and legal transcriptionists are likewise in demand in the region.
