Sorry to hear about your bad experience sir legriv. Others will be informed because of this.

    thanks for the heads up.

Unless kakilala mo yung nasa hole-in-the wall na mekaniko.

This is going to be harsh ...
For want of a cheap service repair, you end up paying more plus a lot of headaches. Most likely you car parts have been sold and replaced with even more defective parts. Why in the world would you leave your car to a stranger who left it in the sidewalk? Did you think that changing a transmission was just like changing tires? That it would just take a short time and no problems would arise? You might as well have put a sucker sticker on your forehead.

Very bad decision indeed. And for 21k, malaking pera na yan. Nagtipid kapa. Charge to experience na lang. I hope bago mo benta ay pagawa mo muna, or kung di mo naman papagawa, be transparent sa pagbebentahan. Goodluck and thanks for the warning.

lahat (carnapper, mangbobote, banawe boys), just be more wise nalang
kung saan dapat magpagawa ng kotse next time.

and as stated previously, be honest nalang sa next owner.

    i have question...
what is the batting average of AT fixes? i have heard someones say that it is better to completely replace the AT than to have someone open it and fix it...

repair cost can range from 10K to 40K, depends if the damage is light or severe.

what's better, surplus or rebuilt tranny? it depends, both have their own pros and cons

for a surplus tranny, you'd be able to save up on labor coz the mechanic would just have it fitted, filled with ATF, and tested (this is a mechanic's preferred method coz of less effort. easy money). additionally, you don't have any idea the history of the tranny. so basically, a hit or miss. compared to rebuilding a tranny, it would take some time to dismantle, repair/replace parts, assemble, fit, and tested -- reason for a high labor cost. however, this is also a hit or miss, coz the quality of the newly rebuilt tranny depends on the mechanics skills on putting back the parts together properly. if you've got a lousy mechanic, befriend him coz definitely you'll see each other more often.

Kaso nilibre ako sa pagpa-rebuild kaya ok lang I've documented my experiences in this thread/ .

First three weeks rough ang shifting and may vibrations pero I was told na to wait until a month. Buti naman umokey na and now it runs like new , no hesitations or shifting problems encountered until now.

Kahit na let's say ako nag shoulder nung 40k mas may peace of mind naman ako and may matatakbuhan akong shop in case problems arise. Yung mga hole-in-the-wall shops OK lang yan for minor jobs or kung kakilala mo talaga yung mekaniko but I wouldn't risk my vehicle to another person na di ka sigurado.
