guys question naman. lately, napansin ko sa kotse ng father ko, pag nilalagay ko yung shift stick sa pagitan ng 1st and 2nd gear, hindi na siya bumabalik sa N position. should i worry? car is 2000 nissan sentra ex saloon exalta body, all stock. nagpalit ng clutch before. siguro 1-2 years ago na, pero less than a week palang nung lumabas yang ganyang condition ng kotse. help mga sir. hindi kasi ako sigurado kung kailangan ko mag-worry. TIA!

the shifter mechanism might be stuck from rust or dried up lubricant on the shift mechanism just outside the transaxle at the other end of the shifter cable. try spraying with silicone lubricant or a suitable equivalent

When you shift gears,- the stick goes to the Neutral position first, right?

Also, normally, the stick rests not in the 1-2 column but in the 3-4 column for "safety reasons".....

Shifters have rubber bushings. They may be just worn. You can start eliminating possible reasons by checking those.

It's also worth checking the condition of the shift cables while you're at it.

yes, when i shift gears, it's in the Neutral position first. since you've mentioned the 3-4 columns, problem with my dad's car is that the stick doesn't rest there. if you try to move it to the 1-2 position, it will not go back to 3-4 column. it will just rest at 1-2 colum. you have to manually move it again to 3-4 column.

Your shifter problem is most probably caused by worn out shifter bushings which are located at the base of the shift stick. There is also a return or neutral positioning spring which normally does not need replacement. this is an easy part to replace if you have tools and technical know how. It can be safely replaced by the technician at the auto supply where you intend to get the shifter bushings.
