"P" plus parking brake kung matagal ka hintay...also for steep parkings.
"N" plus parking brake for stoplight waiting...
although pinapagalitan ako ng tito ko na based sa US sa ganito kasi daw pag stop
ok na daw "P" no need for parking brake kasi pag rear disc brakes ka, mas mabilis kang magpapalit ng rear brake kit ba yun...
kaya "P" lang ako pag stop.

As we have always said here. Never use 'P' to hold your vehicle while stopped. That is one expensive parking brake.

Brake pads are cheap, plentiful and very easy to replace.

on stops while waiting for the green light, "N" is already ok w/o brakes...now if the road is not level meaning you feel that it would move forward or backward just apply the normal brakes or parking/hand brake to stop the car from moving albeit the "safest" way would always be to engage your brakes in case someone bumps you from behind & to let the guy coming from behind know that your on a full stop.

regarding the rear brake kits, its not really true, the only way that you'll change it faster is when you always forget to disengage the parking/hand brakes & drive off, now hat will really decrease the brake shoes considerably, i guess your uncle is just trying to avoid that.....

in plain english, ito yung pinakamataas mong gear. don't be confused by the term OVERDRIVE. akala kasi ng nakararami, pampabilis or pampalakas ito ng car. hindi po. usually, meron pong separate button for increasing the power of your car for A/Ts, but this actually only delays the shifting point to a higher rpm.

for starters, just keep the OD on, put to D then step on the accelerator to speed and brake to slow down. i was able to drive from clark to manila with just these setting and without tinkering with any setting. learn the rest when you are used to it already, you cant go wrong with these setup, just dont drive agressively, because this setup is economy mode.

Deactivate handbrake. Tapos, bitawan ang brake, apak sa accelerator. Timplahin ang apak para makuha desired speed.
    3) Pag paparada ka na, as in papatayin na makina at gagarahe. Apak ulit sa break. Shift to 'P'. Activate handbrake. Bitaw sa brake. Patayin makina gamit susi. Hugot susi.

Basta lagi ka apak sa brake bago ka mag-shift to 'D' or 'R' from standstill.

    Ayos?
