September 15th, 2003 05:23 PM #193Artpogi, you got a good point there. But I still think the new law would translate to higher sales for the car companies, with the government projecting a conservative 20-something percent increase in revenue. Filipinos are congenital car lovers, many would prioritize having a nice car to a nice house. For these people, a five or six digit discount off the price of the average sedan is more than enough incentive to trade in their old clunker, even if this means signing on a very lengthy car loan. And for the rich ones who knows a good value when they see one, what's having another new car in the garage to fancy?

"BMW: Still the Marque of a wise investor"
Naasar ako sa ad campaign ng BMW na 'to. before the new tax law they were saying that their prices would increase kaya dapat daw don't delay in buying a BMW. Ngayon sila mismo umamin na bumaba yung prices ng 3-series (and 5-series yata) tapos labas na naman sila ng ads na even with the new tax law, tataas parin ang prices nila dahil tumataas yung value ng Euro. The (not-so-) funny thing is, Bimmers brought here are made in Thailand and I'm definitely sure that the Thai Baht has not been performing as strong as the Euro for the past year.

September 16th, 2003 09:37 PM #197Maybe they're employing desperate measures to unload their inventory. It is much harder to sell a 1.8M car than one that costs 518T, especially with an Oct. 1 deadline. Incidentally, kung hindi na nagkakalokohan, the 316 should only cost around 1.1m by Oct. 1

September 17th, 2003 10:02 AM #200I think I'm getting the picture........with low end cars, they give you the real price, and as you go up the automotive hierarchy, they will increase their profit margins in proportion so there isn't much significant change in the prices. At least the grey-market importers will counterbalance this and the prices would go down to their real levels eventually IMO.
