February 28th, 2009 04:16 PM #84People, listen, what if the accident is really due to mechanical failure? I learned from a car enthusiast yesterday that the van that run over Amiel is a converted right-hand drive. According to my source, he personally knows of 3 cases of converted right-hand drives that would suddenly rev up even if you don't step on the gas! I am no car expert but this is very disturbing considering that there are lots of converted cars being driven around. You can even check out the thread here in tsikot about accidents involving converted cars. I hope someone can look into this angle.
Also, my heart goes out to both families. Both are suffering so much that it is better if we just offer prayers of forgiveness and peace of mind for both. We see Amiel's family in the news and it is really heartbreaking. But at the same time, I think about the children of Ms. Torres, most especially the son who is also a grade 4 student in Ateneo. A friend of mine who works in Ateneo said that the boy is so kawawa, the other students are going to him and saying that your mom is a criminal. Can you imagine the trauma of this to the child??? Wala naman syang kinalaman sa pangyayari and yet this will probably ruin him for life.

February 28th, 2009 04:41 PM #85The attending policeman stated that when he checked the hi-ace, the brakes worked. So its not a question of brake failure. If the vehicle inexplicably lurched forward, then it may become a mitigating circumstance, that's why it is being filed as homicide. If they can prove some other unavoidable problem, it may be downgraded to manslaughter. If there was intent to kill, then it is upgraded to murder.
The bottom line, may nasagasaan. Patay. The only way to be absolved of the death, is if self defense. Obviously, walang basis ang self defense. Therefore, the death of the boy has to be addressed by the court, of which a corresponding punishment has to be dealt. The issue of may defect ang kotse to cause that possible "lurch", if can be proven, may be not enough to make Torres NOT GUILTY. Then again, she may be able to find a miracle. With our legal system, miracles can happen.
I agree that Torres and her children will forever be scarred. Everybody will not be the same anymore, even the whole ateneo community. She will just have to face the music. Such is the fact of life.

March 1st, 2009 12:27 PM #86It is not a question of whether Ms. Torres is guilty or not. That is as clear as the light of day. But if there really is a mechanical failure due to it being a converted car then I think that is worth looking into. This can happen again and again and again to someone like you or me just because of some unscrupulous businessman churning out substandard converted cars.

Nakaka gulat mga reaction nung iba dito grabe...Parang pang kay FG,GMA,car jackers or abusayaf ang mga comments...mabulok sa bilangguan, reypin ng warden etc etc..
As a parent myself na halos kasing edad nung victim, mabigat talaga yun dinanas nung victim at nung pamilya. talaga masakit na masakit yan no question about it..
But on the other hand Im also a husband to wife who also drives...ang punto ko, aksidente yun, walang may gusto nun...pag nakulong yun lady driver as mandated by law so be it, nag sorry siya, kung hindi man tanggap ng pamilya ng biktima at ng iba dito wala tayo magagawa...meron din siyang mga anak na hinddi makakapiling yung nanay nila dahil naka kulong for how long(so sila parang namatayn din ng nanay)...so quits na?..Everybody happy?
Aksidente to walang may gusto...Easy lang sa comments, it can happen to anyoneeven to haters, yes haters..
BTW di ko kaano ano yung involved dito, isa lang pong ordinaryong mamayan na nanlulumo sa buong pangyayari and seeing it from both angles.

know what? im also a parent of 2. i just put myself in the situation and that will be my reaction once mangyari to sa anak ko ok? mahal ko anak ko kaya kung may mananakit dito ay titiyakin kung magbabayad ng mahal ang sinoman, maging aksidente man o talagang sinadya!
heheheheheh

March 1st, 2009 03:43 PM #90may nanay na bang nag post dito?
from a mother's point of view..
i'm a mom na solong nagpapalaki sa mga anak..i have two boys..i've given up my career kahit gano ka promising kasi gusto ko alagaan mga anak ko..take care of them and watch them grow up with my own eyes..(writing this post makes me teary-eyed).."friend", you know who you are..you once told me..masyado ako protective sa mga anak ko eh mga lalaki yun..(remember?)..bec God i love them so.
we send our kids to the best schools bec we CAN afford to PAVE the way to their future..God, Amiel could have had a very bright future ahead of him..and some neglectful "mother" just wasted that...walang kakwenta kwentang kamatayan..
marami pa akong kayang sabihin on being a trsponsible driver and all..but to sum up..it's NEGLIGENCE...in all aspect.
i will not look at both angles..my heart goes out to the family of the victim.
Had my 2014 Altis repaired by Tireman PH in Gen. Trias, Cavite last Wednesday. Nawala na yun...
