Brace yourselves folks. If you think EDSA traffic is the pits, you ain't seen nuthin' yet: MMDA Fears

MANILA, Philippines --- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) expressed yesterday apprehension over the a possible "traffic pandemonium" should the two-year major overhaul of Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) push through.

"Where will we locate the 1,200 vehicles that ply per lane, per hour along EDSA?" MMDA Chairman Francis N. Tolentino asked out loud as he confirmed to media the information he received from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The DPWH is planning to do major repairs on EDSA between Monumento and Baclaran for 24 months.

Tolentino said the mere thought of it is quite chilling.

The MMDA chairman said he has "yet to be consulted for a viable traffic management plan" that would cater to the volume of vehicles that ply EDSA, especially during the rush hour, should the DPWH execute the plan.

Tolentino said there should be back plan to accommodate the number of vehicles that will be displaced during the construction period because motorists would face massive traffic.

"I have no sound solution or a magical wand to produce a good result. Provide us with a silver bullet first, show us the plan and we will consult the general traffic," he added.

EDSA, being the country's busiest thoroughfare, is referred to as the spine of the metropolis.

"Pag nagbara ang EDSA, wala nang gagalaw. Lilipat na kami ng opisina, wala na yan, wala na yan, pandemonium yan (If EDSA is blocked, mobility stops. We'll have to relocate our office. That's the end of it - "pandemonium,"' said the MMDA chairman whose office is also near EDSA.

Make the motoring public choose the MRT.

Traffic: Is another skyway the best solution?

Kung wala kasing kickback yan, they have improved EDSA a lot better.

Let's face it. EDSA is too congested. Until they find ways to increase the road lanes without buying the prime lots along it, this horrifying traffic will never be solved.

    2. more trains.

Pag nasagot lahat ng problema na yan, majority ma-eenganyo mag MRT, then saka bawasan ang BUS/UV Express for the meantime.

All the MRT stations were built to accommodate 4 railcars.. di ko maintindihan bakit 3 railcars lang ginagamit ng MRT management.

4 railcars and trains just half a kilometer apart, and the MRT still won't have anywhere near the volume to replace the buses on EDSA, (speaking as a pre-paid card holder)

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
