Welcome to the Republic of Binay!

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Wednesday said it will apprehend all vehicle owners using the “Binay 2010" commemorative plates.

LTO chief Reynaldo Berroya said he issued the order to apprehend those found using the commemorative plate, after receiving reports that some motorists in Metro Manila have been using such plate.

Berroya noted that the commemorative plate is not registered at the LTO and is therefore illegal. The plates are allegedly being distributed by unidentified individuals to boosts Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay’s plan to run for president in 2010.

Binay – who is the chairman of the United Opposition and one of the political personalities being considered by the opposition as its standard bearer in 2010 – had already denied knowledge about the distribution of the commemorative plate, and has ordered Makati City traffic enforcers to arrest drivers using such plate.

Based on the records of the LTO there are only eight valid commemorative plates registered at agency as of January 15. These are: St. Scholastica Centennial Celebration; The Kiwanis Club of St. John; University of Philippines; LTO 95th Founding Anniversary; Cannonization of Marie Eugenie of Jesus; PGH 100th Anniversary Foundation; Manila Science High School and Philippine Practical Shooters Association. - GMANews.TV
