From my understanding, it's usually the company who wants to do product placement in a movie that does the convincing (with money) ... Think Super Bowl ...

Correct! Car manufacturers do that all the time like the Audi Q7 in “The Intern” which Showed all angles of the suv throughout the movie.

Same goes for Lexus in “Black Panther”.

Was even able to watch a Korean movie that used Hyundai Starex in their car chase scene!

or, the movie folks just get the cheapest cars they can get, because the cars will just get blown up or fall into the river...?
