Actually... some countries have come to the conclusion that giving bus drivers their "sariling mundo" is the porper way to go. Like Ghosthunter posted a few months ago, many progressive cities have separate roads built solely for bus services. This is so that the buses don't waste time (and diesel) sitting in traffic (yes, this is a big deal... a bus can go through 5000 pesos of diesel in just two or three hours)... and so they don't interrupt the flow of traffic.

So... why not build rails, instead? The cost of upkeep of a rail system is enormous... and despite a light rail system using electricity, the government actually has to subisidize it to make it cost-competitive with buses.

if the government subsidizes a sealed-route bus system instead, they can probably charge even lower ticket prices than with the MRT. And, as a bonus, bus breakdown or power outages won't shut down the system.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

for me, just leave the buses to provincial routes, in manila, better off if we focus on the improvements of our LRTs and MRTs, its convenience, its cost, and the time..

buses are more effective in provincial routes because stopping time is less. compared to the edsa buses. paying more and travelling longer compared to te MRT. only prob for MRT are the number of trains, of which should be addressed upon.

mahihirapan pa ang Gov't na alisin ang maraming buses, sasakit lang ulo nila sa mga protesta na mangyayari, at the end of the day isa lang naman ang gagawin nilang solution alisin si suansing...hehehe

^My take, is let them protest all they want --- but its about time the streets were made safer from these rolling coffins we'd like to call buses.

They seem to forget that their very business is a mere privilege granted by the state and not demandable by right.

boycot the edsa bus, take the MRTS!! hehe. hayaan mo nalng malugi yan.

LTFRB should have done the phaseout very discretely by making the non-renewal appear to be on a case to case basis. But no, they want their media mileage which unfortunately attracts both positive and negative reactions. Besides, election fever just around the corner many tradpols will certainly exploit the situation.
