    LTO starts issuing plates
    that can outlast cars

NOW you can literally have your car named after you after the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) gave the go-signal for the Land Transportation Office to issue so-called vanity license plates (VLP).

DOTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza launched the VLP program pursuant to Presidential Memorandum Order No. 65 which authorizes the department to issue optional motor vehicle plates bearing the inscriptions preferred by the vehicle owner.

In launching the program, Mendoza said the VLP would only be issued to a duly registered motor vehicle owner who has a regular license plate.

The regular plate shall be the basis for the renewal of the registration of motor vehicles.

Mendoza said that the VLP would be effective for a lifetime, unless revoked by the LTO due to violations of law and non-compliance with the agency's rules and regulations.

The vanity plate shall be issued only once to a duly registered vehicle.

Commercial or “for hire” vehicles, ambulances, government, diplomatic and other exempt vehicles (OEV) would not be authorized to display VLPs, Mendoza disclosed.

DOTC spokesman Thompson Lantion said the VLP was already available for reservation at any LTO authorized district office nationwide.

A reservation fee of 1,000 pesos per category shall be collected either through the authorized depository bank or LTO cashiers to be deducted from the cost of the plate.

Lantion said that upon issuance, the VLP shall be attached to the rear portion of the vehicle.

bmdj--lifetime na yan at yung 1k na bayad kasama na ata bayad sa plate pag natapos, siguro wala na yung original plate mo,e pa check ko muna.
