"Sa ikauunlad ng bayan, bisikleta ang kailangan!" -Ariel Ureta

Yup, I was hit by a bike a few weeks ago along Aguinaldo Hi-way near our subdivision. I was coming out of the bus. Take note... pinara ko ang bus sa tamang babaan. I had a few scratches. Hindi ko na inupakan iyung naka-bisikleta kasi wala rin namang mangyayari kung papatol ako sa gago, lalabas kasi na mas gago ako sa kanya.

    just an observation guys,

did you notice na everytime we see those single, double & triple wheelers on the road, its either they're at the center of the lane or somewhat occupying a portion of the road na hindi natin maovertake, kakainis di ba but Filipino value pa rin pinaiiral natin by giving way, gently avoiding them or simply wait for them to get on the side of the road, ganun po tayo...which doesn't do good because by doing so we somehow tolerate this kind of practice...strict implementation on road use of this type of transportation should be enforced but HOW???

Sa Roxas Blvd . pag gabi na maraming trycycle at kuliglig ang tumatakbo mahirap nito walang mga ilaw at mabilis pa ang takbo at nakipagkarera sa ibang sasakyan.

-this is so true, kahit dito sa Ortigas Ave. Extension...ang daming tricycle dumadaan, kinausap ko yung isang blue boys...and sabi puwede daw ang tricycle dumaan...dati ang Pasig walang number coding, last year they implemented it dahil daw sobrang traffic dahil ang daming sasakyan...and now they allow this tricycles to ply this road na halos karamihan ng taga Rizal ay dumadaan dito...I hope Mayor Eusebio will do something about this.

Even the Supreme Court, in its exasperation with the proliferation of tricycles on highways and major thoroughfares, in one case (LTO vs. CITY OF BUTUAN, Jan. 20, 2010) made the following comment:

"The Court cannot end this decision without expressing its own serious concern over the seeming laxity in the grant of franchises for the operation of tricycles-for-hire and in allowing the indiscriminate use by such vehicles on public highways and principal thoroughfares."

It even made what appeared to be a stern warning to all LGU officials who don't implement the ban that they face criminal prosecution:

"The need for ensuring public safety and convenience to commuters and pedestrians alike is paramount. It might be well, indeed, for public officials concerned to pay heed to a number of provisions in our laws that can warrant in appropriate cases an incurrence of criminal and civil liabilities. Thus -

    The Revised Penal Code -

'Art. 208. Prosecution of offenses; negligence and tolerance. - The penalty of prision correccional in its minimum period and suspension shall be imposed upon any public officer, or officer of the law, who, in dereliction of the duties of his office, shall maliciously refrain from instituting prosecution for the punishment of violators of the law, or shall tolerate the commission of offenses."

That decision was written more than 4 years ago. And in Oct 2014, this CCTV caught this horrific incident in Davao City:

That prompted Duterte to issue a stern warning to trike drivers to stay out of highways.

Earlier in 2013 in Angeles City, this trike was plying this road almost in the middle of it and turned upside down:

And last week in Gapan, the motorcycle got detached from the cab. Here's the proof:

    http://youtu.be/0eHjluILUPw

    Kailan kaya tayo matututo?

The usual argument against the ban is that trikes are the only viable and cheap mode of transport for our poor countrymen. But then, they are the same people who become victims in horrible accidents like these which could have been avoided with strict enforcement of our laws.

And the irony is that we have a national law that requires people riding cars, etc. or to buckle up or else they will get a ticket and yet our government does not implement the same safety requirement on trike drivers and their passengers. Tsk tsk

How could we in Tsikot.com create a stir so that our authorities will wake up from their stupor and start enforcing our traffic laws? Or, are we destined to remain a soft republic/weak state which is marked by a lax implementation of the law (like where the road sign says "parking on this road is strictly prohibited" as if people have a choice whether to obey or not obey the law)?
