    That's for last year only.

The 2.7 vvti variant topped sales during the initial years where the scare of the D4D was at a high point.

2008 showed the rise of the 2.5D variant as the CRDI woes seems to abate and coupled with the skyrocketing gas rates middle of last year.

With diesel prices dipping further since the last quarter of 2008, more people are favoring this side of the G variant.

This shift in preference is precisely what makes the choice albeit more difficult for many nowadays.

So what you're saying is true 2 years ago. Overall the 2.5 D4D is the No. 1variant. Unless there are figures to prove to the contrary. Now that diesel is back at 5-6 pesos cheaper than gas, the more desirable it has become, yes?

What I' m saying is the 4x2 gas variant was a popular choice during the initial years because its relatively cheap at about 1.3M. The D4D woes contribute to laggard sales of the diesel G variant because a lot of people initially thought that the injector problems was NOT a random thing unlike the kind reminiscent of the CRDI Trooper of Isuzu a few years back. But Toyota never acknowledged corrosion of its Denso injectors is inherent but instead blamed the contamination of diesel fuel in SOME of the gas stations.

The random selective nature of the problem was also associated with the first batches of Fortuners.

Nevertheless, Toyota gave an advisory that the problem was already dealt with. This somehow calm the jitters. And with the rising gas prices last year, it saw a shift that favors the 4x2 diesel Fortuner. Buyers were advised to be more discriminating of where they pump their fuel.

Problem is... with the warranty out, are you willing to shoulder the HUGE projected expense for injector replacement?

What I'm saying is if "Russian roulette" is your game, gamble or wager on buying the diesel. Indeed, it is desirable to own one at this point even if you are well aware of the type of diesel we have that could be the source of your worries later.

    Good luck.

Been using a 3.0 D4D V since July 2005 and never given me a headache. My younger bro got a 2.5 D4D Innova G since 2007. No problem so far...

Low mileage use only. The Fortuner ran only less than 30,000 km.
