August 15th, 2005 09:44 PM #15Hi
esp, said most of it. But he seems to suggest that the original poster was applying this to purchasing a car. This may not be the case. Both are about the same, one is up in some areas, the other is better in yet different areas. The car is complex enough that lots of compromises are done, both makers are optimising in different areas in different ways. I am sure most would agree.
However, if you want to compare HYBRID car development. No question one is way ahead of the other. So much so that Porsche is doing joint development on the "rumoured" Cayenne Hybrid!. (German's bowing to Japanese, for a change!. How the world has changed!)

nagkakahiyaan pa tayo eh...let's start the controversy
first let me say that i love both brands and in my extended family we own/have owned four toyotas and seven hondas. eto imo ang pros and cons:
toyota
pros
- strong, highly moddable engines
- smaller engines still produce good torque
- very comfortable ride
cons
- styling has become more and more bland
- too many models imo. creates market confusion.
- value for money seems to have dropped off recently (US market)
honda
pros
- great styling
- very innovative
- a little more reliable and lower cost to own than toyota in my experience
- high quality interior materials
cons
- cannot build an engine with good torque
- everybody has one ;)

Toyota Corolla vs. Honda Civic
AE92 vs. EF - AE92 because of stronger engine, and EF wasn't distributed in large volumes yet.
AE101 vs. EG - AE101 (slightly better overall)
AE111 vs. EK - EK (a really great car with nicer looks and VTEC engines compared to the AE111 which is mechanically an AE101, only sturdier and heavier).
121 Altis vs. ES - Altis (duh?)
On other models:
Camry vs. Accord - Accord (better power and driver involvement with negligible compromise in comfort)
RAV 4 vs. CR-V (2.0) - RAV 4 for fun and CR-V for versatility
Vios vs. City - Vios on the outside, City on the inside
In short, it really depends on which particular category. Some of my comparisons may be personal such that you might have a different opinion. There's no doubt that Toyota and Honda are the best of Japan, but both are very much different from one another. If you plan to choose among the two brands, pick the model that will suit you most, ok?

Camry vs Accord - hmm.. Camry ako.
