A car is classified as a necessity and not a luxury. It is transportation; people need it to get on and move about with their lives. You simply cannot rely on public transportation always and i'm sure those who do, have to adjust their schedules and plans to fit into public transpo and won't have as much freedom in their schedules as people who bring their own rides. If everyone could afford cars, most would almost certainly buy one. Why is there still a market for vehicles at the 100K to 200K even if they're already ageing?

Now, this Thread becomes "The car is a luxury?".
Here's the definition I've got from my research.
Hope to stop the confusion here!

LUXURY - a material object, service, etc., conducive to sumptuous living, usually a delicacy, elegance, or refinement of living rather than a necessity:

Luxury | Define Luxury at Dictionary.com

    LUXURY
Something inessential but conducive to pleasure and comfort.
Something expensive or hard to obtain.
Sumptuous living or surroundings: lives in luxury.
    adj.

    luxury: Definition, Synonyms from Answers.com

Luxury vehicle is a marketing term for a vehicle that provides luxury — pleasant or desirable features beyond strict necessity—at increased expense

ang point kasi ng iba --

meron naman daw regular motor oil and regular spark plug kaya luxury daw ang synthetic motor oil and iridium spark plug

pwede naman daw mag commute kaya luxury daw ang car ownership

Can we say then that there are cars/motorcycles that can be considered luxury items, but not all cars/motorcycles are luxurious?

It is called tools of work nga for some company. Maybe it's a privilege to own a car. But not a luxury.
