Biglang namatay at the middle of the road yong unit namin
Hindi pa naman nangyari sakin ito. Hard/fail starting lang parati ang problema.
Pero may mga Fortuner V 3.0 na ganito ang nangyari yong iba nga sa Makati pa tumirik.

Also, the last time we took the unit to the casa, they adjusted the idling.
CRdi engine idling can't be adjusted w/o using ECU scanner baka naman they just Initialize the ECU.

The guy told me that it's about the fuel filter--marumi na raw.

Hi guys! Im new here. I would like to ask some assistance regarding what type of fortuner to buy. I am planning to buy one by the 1st week of december. 4 X 4 is out of the question due to limited budget. So its either the 2.7 VVTi or the 2.5 D4D.

I would really want to own a fortuner diesel because of better fuel consumption and cheap diesel price however there seems to be a problem with the D4D engine. I thought that by this time the D4d problem should have been solved already. I asked my dealer regarding this and confirmed that there were some units which experienced that problem. He insisted that the problem can be fixed anyway. I also learned that there were no engine modifications whatsoever regarding the 1st batch of fortuner and the latest batch. So there is still a chance that i can get a defective diesel fort.

Now if i will choose the gas type, it will definitely entail a higher fuel consumption. Are there other advantages and disadvantages of owning a gas fed fort? Is the fuel consumtion really that high?

As additional input I am based at NCR now and will use the fort for City Driving. But by next year i can be assigned to our provincial offices as far as Mindanao and will be bringing the fort with me

i agree, my friend drives a 2.7vvti fort and gas consumption for city driving is 7 km/li. not bad for a big automobile; this is more economical than the new honda civic.

I had a series of fail starting a few months back(Sept) that's why I took it to Toyota Cubao. Same thing, resetting, idling adjustment plus the regular maintenance.

Our car milage is 14k+ na. And yes, I watched the the guy in the Toyota casa while he was replacing the fuel filter. Madumi nga. But I questioned them how come Toyota Cubao didn't see that problem considering it was supposed to be covered during the car's periodic maint. for the 10k milage. He wasn't able to answer and started calling T.Cubao. But I was told that no one's answering the phone in that branch. The guy even told me that they had cases of hard/failure starting but never a car stalled right at the middle of the road. It was then that I asked him about the axle recall. Medyo nagulat bat alam ko yon. Maybe they think that any info won't come out para walang fuss sa consumers/Innova owners particularly their prospective buyers. Among the units that I've driven, ito lang talaga ang na-jeopardize ang safety ko...good thing it was just a small(2-lane na 1 way) road. I told him paano kung asa Libis ako kung saan highly-strung ang mga drivers or kung nag-oovertake ako then may kasalubong at tapos ganon nga, the engine died on me. Very disappointing! Mukhang kung anu-ano na nga lang talaga ang alibis/palusot nila.

Isn't it unfair to compare the 4 cylinder diesel engines of the other makes to a 4L VQ40 V6 gas engine of Nissan. Besides having a full liter advantage in displacement vs Toyota and Isuzu, it also has 2 more cylinders than all three makes. As for getting 18mpg on mixed driving that is very optimistic, I can only get 15.5 to 16 on my VQ40 in my truck.

Edit: The Frontier with the specs you showed also isn't sold in Manila AFAIK since they still sell the old model in Manila.

More importantly, what does the post of co_nixz have to do with Toyota D4-D engine woes?

    Yup OT na kyo

inoba, So kamusta ng unit mo ngayon? Wala ba silang sinabi kung san galing dumi ng fuel filter? Sa tingin ko dapat kausapin mo yong warranty officer ng casa mo at sabihin mong hindi dapat mag fail yong fuel filter mo kasi that fuel filter is design to last up to 40,000km. Your fuel filter fails to filter foreign elements kaya nag stall yong Innova mo.

Thanks for the tip sir larshell. I'm still observing kung magi-improve ang performance ng oto namin. Don't want to test-drive it ng malayo...baka bigla na naman akong itirik sa daan. Just makes me wonder if my unit's a lemon. Mukhang mas okay pa yong 2nd hand car na nabili namin vs. this unit.
