Mali yata prediction nila na D4D problems starts at 12,000 Km - 100,000 Km as posted here before kasi iba mas earlier. Kasi naman, VVTi na lang kasi para worry free.

Take note that the choking problem went away after I had the filter removed, cleaned, and returned, and surprisingly, the choking problem went away. Never experienced it again. Was the only innova user who thought it was due to a loose fuel filter, but others experienced it and toyota diagnosed it to be a defective spring related to our poor diesel fuel. Jaeger and I theorize that it could be my pump's spring was about to give out, and when I started using BD, timing was perfect, because just on my 2nd BD load, the choking problem occured. But because of BD and its 32% lubricity increase effect, na corrected right away.

Just wanted to share our thoughts on this. Jaeger, ikaw naman mag comment. Those that had problems with the CRDI, did you use BD? If yes, how long before the problem cropped up?

The following is my take on this matter:

There was a global initiative for countries to adopt a Clean Air policy which the oil companies also complied with by reducing the sulfur content in the diesel fuel they produced. In the desulfurization of diesel, the process also removed some other chemicals which provides lubricity in the fuel. This is the reason why the oil companies have to put lubricity additives to restore this essential property in diesel.

I think that the fuel supply pump of our 2.5-li. D4D is very maselan and requires a higher amount of lubricity in the fuel. If you check on the net, a great deal of the fuel pump failures are caused by lack of lubricity in diesel fuel used.

m2m and other members mentioned that the culprit in the D4Ds supply pump failure is the spring. So that spring must have already developed some form of peripheral corrosion, or scar marks due to the lack of lubricity.

At some point, those scars will be so deep causing some resistance in the spring action and later, that spring will just fail to do its job properly, causing the entire supply pump to eventually fail. Could this be the root cause of the D4D "choking" problem? Does this make sense to you?

So you may ask why other CRDI engines don't have this fuel supply pump problem? - their springs and pumps are just built tougher. Ours were built flimsier (thanks to Denso - f**k).

A 1% biodiesel blend will improve base-level diesel fuel lubricity by 32%. After an enlightening seminar on petroleum chemistry basics and bio-fuels last Sat. I personally believe that I should put in more lubricity in the diesel I feed into my Innova, just to help my rotten Denso pump do its job easier.

I temporarily stopped using BD on my D4D Innova from 6000~9000 odo. due to the words of caution posted on this thread, but I have resumed using BD now.

May point si jaeger, my friend who's been using biodiesel on his Innova since Day 1 hasn't had any problems with his unit and it's odometer is nearing 15,000 kms.

I was at Big Bert's last Saturday. May Innova D4d for washing. I asked the owner if he has had problems with the CRDi. Yes daw. Pinalitan yung fuel pump and some other components.

Pagtingin ko sa unit wala pang plaka! Ano ba naman yan...

Can you pls ask your friend what brand of diesel fuel does he use? Petron, Shell or Caltex?

That's not an addition to the stats. I think it was my unit you saw at BB last Saturday. I had it detailed (the Optiguard Paint protection) while its still fresh
Ikaw ba yung may dala ng Mazda 3?
