    "...putol piston ring.."
baka, may tama na rin ang cylinder liner? kaya siguro nag-oil-pumping na? need to replace these.
also, that engine rev issue with the aircon, sounds like malfunctioning idle up mechanism.

Please bear with me, this is quite a long one.
My corolla 2E had these symptoms:

    -overheating
-engine dies when you lift your foot off the gas pedal
    -blue smoke from exhaust
-sludge forming on the radiator cap
    -loss of coolant
    -extreme loss of engine oil

I brought it to my "trusted mechanic" for a top overhaul and he fixed some things including:

    -thermostat
    -timing belt
    -replaced valve seals
    -oil and filter (of course)
    -piston ring (nakita niya putol)
    -gasket
    -spark plugs
    overall cost: 14K

After getting the car back, I immediately did:

    -radiator overhaul (badly needed)
-replaced the non working radiator fan
    overall cost: 3K

So I was happy coz I thought everything should be fixed by now (spent 16k on that alone). After driving it gingerly for a week in manila, these problems started showing up:

-MASSIVE blue smoke from the exhaust (mas malala pa to kaysa bago ko ipa-overhaul
-VISIBLE smoke from the engine bay, pag tinanggal mo yung dipstick, sobrang daming usok galing sa loob ng engine
    -idle came down to 200
-erratic revs when AC is on, biglang tataas to 2k then babagsak to 300. Mga 5 times na ganon before returning to normal rev
-after 3 days, massive vibration. Engine will die when I turn the AC on
-after just a week, noticed that the oil level has gone down

I decided to bring it back to my "trusted mechanic", he said I should have the carb checked. He referred me to another mechanic who specializes in carb:

-had the carb checked and cleaned
    -checked the camshaft
-mechanic saw that one of my newly replaced spark plugged was already shot so he replaced it (2 weeks and the damn thing already destroyed a spark plug)
    overall cost: 1.8K

After all these, the car still have:

-Massive blue smoke from the exhaust and from the engine bay
-erratic revs when AC is on

So having determined that the carb was not the problem, I brought it back to my "trusted mechanic" and he told me that the engine needs to undergo rebore. Damn. After spending almost 18K, he now tells me it needs a full overhauling. I saw a post from here that an engine overhaul costs somewhere between 25 to 30k. Nawalan na ko ng tiwala sa mekaniko ko after nito. Kung iisipin ko, gumastos ako ng 18k at para lang mawala yung overheating issue. Nakaklaungkot. Any advice, guys? Thanks in advance.
Firat thing na gawin mo is look for a new mechanic. A competent and honest one.

Next is buy a surplus engine

I guess you're obviously right na magpalit na ng mekaniko. lol

Regarding on changing the engine, makakamura ba talaga ako doon? Surplus 4AFE costs what, 20-30k? And I still dont know if that engine is still in good shape. What if its not? That would be additional cost to have it reconditioned, right? I guess upgrading or changing the engine would be a better choice if you have the money, but unfortunately, I already spent 18k. I guess I'll just go with general overhauling for monetary reason. If only I have the money, I'll go for the turbo engine, which is a dream for me. Kaso tuyot na wallet ko. lol Thank you so much guys!

On another note, tipid and reliable ba yung 4EFTE for daily driving?

Anyone owns an automatic variant here?... i just have a question regarding your RPM.. mine normally stays <2k on a normal city driving.. haven't even tried reaching 3k mark or so..

i found a video on youtube showing how to revup automatic tranny particulary for toyotas..
Has anyone tried this before? quickly flooring the accelerator to instantly gain speed?

    yespo. that's how it's done.
of course, we also burn more fuel in doing so. the so-called "aggressive driving".
