Pretty much. The Lemon Law does not and cannot cover product issues due to misuse.
But the manufacturer should prove that the problem is due to misuse. So, while you won't get a denial of warranty on electrical problems or aircon problems for missing an oil change... the dealer can deny you warranty on engine issues for missing oil changes.
Personally, past 60,000 kilometers, I don't go to the dealer, anyway.Last edited by niky; September 7th, 2014 at 12:48 PM.

^^ getting the feel of the oil is not eyeballing.
Edit: it's a legit question... A simple answer would do.Last edited by [archie]; September 12th, 2014 at 02:43 AM.

I change oil every 10K on my 2000 Corolla (4AFE) since I got it 2nd hand at 47K+ Km odo way back 2006. Now it's at 202K+ km and has no major issues. I've changed thermostat due to non activation, radiator due to the plastic top cracking, alternator due to not charging, rebuild steering rack due to leak, but no issues related to engine lubrication. FC used to be 13-14Km/L but dipped to 11-12Km/l after full implementation of ethanol on gasoline. Now it remains steady at 11km/L average.
I've used Motul HTech, Mobil 1 0W40, Mag1 10W30, Delo Gold and Mobil Super 1000 so it's a mix and match of synthetic and dino oil over the years. The last 70K Km has all been dino oil.
Never used flushing oil, just drain and pour and no oil filter change in between.
However, around 70% of my drive is SLEX (Sucat to Santa Rosa) since this is my daily driver so it's rarely put on severe driving condition.
I guess older engines are more tolerant of extended OCI or I'm just lucky.
On our new corolla 3ZRFE, I intend to stick to 5K dino or 10K syn as advised by our SA for warranty purposes.

But everyone loves to see the dark oil draining from the engine during the oil change. It somehow justifies the expense incurred in the changing of the oil.Last edited by dr. d; September 12th, 2014 at 04:40 PM.
