4x4fan,
the chevy optra which is sold as close as in canada, is the suzuki forenza here in the US. GM can't sell it as the optra here since they already have a compact car called CAVALIER which is pathetic and ugly.....but is set to be replaced by the CHEVY COBALT (rumored to be on par with its competition the focus, the 3, corolla,civic,golf...)

will the tC completely replace the Celica altogether?
if so, then the natural competitors of the tC would include the RSX (base and Type S) and Eclipse, but then, the tC seems to be much cheaper. a rather odd position to be in?

mbt, based on Edmunds.com:
Competing vehicles for the Scion tC are the following:
04 Civic Si HB 2.0
04 Tiburon 2.0
04 Mini-Cooper 1.6
04 Saturn Ion 2.0
Of the above mentioned competitors, the Ion and Si are the only contenders based on hp and torque and price.
$15.9K Scion tC 160hp / 163 ft-lbs
$20.3K Saturn Ion 205hp / 200ft-lbs
$19K Honda Civic Si 160hp / 132ft-lbs
But who would wanna get caught riding a Saturn? Not me. Why would I wanna pay that much for an Si that costs more and has less torque? Not me. Who will be seen riding the Scion tC with the same quality as Honda? ME! 12 more months :jump:
$23.3K Acura Type-S competitors are:
$19.1K Tiburon V6 2.7
$19.8K Cooper-S 1.6 supercharged
$24.6K Eclipse GTS 3.0
$24.1K Celica GTS w/Action package 1.8

THe Scion xa and xb uses the same engine as our 1.5 Vios while the tc uses the same one as the Previa and 2.4l Camry.

the last time i heard, the celica will be discontinued. the celica continues its slow sales, selling only 790 units last month (the echo is worse at 313 units in june.....very disappointing per US and toyota standards).
