Even for a gasoline engine, it's always a good idea to have a cooldown period especially during harddriving.

    Tama ka riyan bro.

Cool down,- para lamang sa may mga turbo (whether diesel or gasoline)....

Kung walang turbo,- puwedeng patay kaagad...

Sa N.A. Na vehicles if you sonetimes notice naka stop na kayo let say sa bahay, then narining niti umandar yung rad fan. Dont turn the engine off yet. Wait for the fan to shut down itself & wait atleast 3 sec to circulate the cold water inside the block. Then turn the engine off.. Yan lang ang timer ng NA..

Since the toyota fortuner vvti is a belt driven fan.. No need to wait.. Just turn the engine off.

Cooldown is not only for the turbo but for the engine as a whole. When you do harddriving, the whole engine experiences elevated temperature, not the turbocharger only. A 30 sec to 2 min cooldown period should be enough. I conducted an experiment by taking temp measurements of the exhaust manifold after a normal drive and after a harddrive (hill climb in montalban). In both cars, my innova d4d and a rio 1.4, both had higher temps immediately after the hardriving. Emphasis is given on a turbocharged engine because of the higher potential for damage on the turbocharger without a proper cooldown. Note, the waiting time for the gates to be opened is already part of the cooldown period. In my case, this usually takes anywhere from 30 secs to 10 mins depending on what time I arrive at home.

how do you know that the turbo is engage when driving car with d4d?
is the turbo already on when you start the engine? or you need to reach a certain speed?

AFAIK as soon as exhaust gases reach the turbo, it was already activated. meaning as soon as you start the engine, the turbo is ON.
