there are many possibilities for engine "palyado". it can be engine misfire, fuel starvation, etc.
maybe your problem of "palyado" is the distributor's breaker point. (does the 2e still have this? is this what you meant by "firing pin"?) maybe the mating surfaces got carbonized during the "long wait". have it cleaned and adjusted? is your distributor capacitor still ok? (again, does the 2e still have this?) when the capacitor fails, the breaker points get fried..
you say you have to add more gas to start it? baka yung carburetor solenoid ang problema..
and isn't the external resistor just to suppress radio static?... i could be wrong.. it was so long ago when i tinkered with car engines..
btw, maraming fake parts diyan.. japan... bosch... etc. and they look just like the originals. buy only from reputable stores.
Thanks Sir D. Opo it still has the distributor cap and yes a month ago I replaced them all, new cap, HTW, firing pin and sparkplugs and condenser. ang hindi ko lang sinama is the ignition coil...I'm also aware na it can be many factors pa causing the symptoms but I'm looking into it na din po...I just pray na sana wala na hehehe...kinda excited na din po to use the car in long drives hehehe....salamat sir Dr. D

360 degrees divided by number of cylinders multiplied by 56-58 percent tells you the rotational degrees the points remain closed. hence: 360 divided by four cylinders=90 degrees. 90 degrees multiplied by 58% is equal to 52 degrees of distributor rotation or dwell. the gap of the points with this is around twenty thousandths of an inch. the condenser around 25 microfarads. please confirm with your owner's or shop manual. this is from what i can remember from 1979.
*jick.cejoco...thanks for that very technical explanation sir. As I read over the net, the 2E engine is a very mechanical engine the technology is post 70's 80's....but there is one thing I can only say about the carburator technology, it is a reliable one, I mean in terms of use and manageability.unlike the electronic ones we have today. These days components are modular in design right?repair is as easy as pulling out one whole PCB and replacing it with another even if one tiny component is the only problem...anyways thanks for the input sir. I appreciate it very much For now I'd stick to the 2e...until my pocket could afford to buy the VVTI ones hehehe

NGK, Bosch? Would you have an idea the specs for a corolla xl 1.3? thanks
    speedibot,
I always buy my spark plugs sa reputable dealer gaya ng casa.
Valve clearance: intake & exhaust: 0.20mm (0.008 in.)
Spark plug type: Denso (W20EXR-U) ; NGK (BPR6EY)
Spark plug gap: 0.8mm (0.031 in.)
    Ignition timing: 10 deg. BTDC
Engine oil capacity: 2.8L (with filter); 2.6L (withuot filter)
(Info based in corolla owner's manual)

*macgyver1432000 Maraming Salamat! BTDC is for premium gasoline? hindi po 8? kasi I use XCS...I tried unleaded pero totoong tumotope ang makina

    speedibot,

*macgyver1432000...Thanks again. I'd stick dun sa suggestion mo sa 10 BTDC kasi the last time pinachange ko sa mechanic yun distributor, firing pin etc. tinanong nya ako anu gas gamit ko,sabi ko XCS then he adjusted nga the degrees and when I asked ano degrees nya sinet he told me nasa 10 raw. kaya its ok. Yun kasing unleaded kaya ko na share is because my boss" car is also an XL with a 2E, ang gamit nya raw ay unleaded kaya everytime pinapadrive nya ako..ayun madalas tumope...ramdam ko yun mahina hatak....
