Mga Guru's Help naman po. I'd like to make a follow up sana sa thread na ginawa ko about the ignition coil. Recently I changed my ignition coil and its ballast resistor on a Corolla XL 91 with a 2E engine. The catch is, when we started the car it sounded fine. unfortunatley, biglang umusok yun external ballast resistor (it came with the ignition coil when i bought it; a hitachi ignition coil). When we took it out, it was smoking hot. So my mechanic decided to use the old ballast resistor nalang. S akin okei lang pero I would prefer na bago na din yun resistor. The value of the resistor, as stamped on it is 1.6 OHMS. My question po dear guru's, do you have any idea ano ang value ng stock resistor ng isang 2E engine. We could'nt read the OHM rating in the old ballast kasi maitim na sa tagal nya (my mechanic guessed it is still the original stock pa) kaya i'd like to change it also, 20 years na din yun. Help lang po what value should I buy na compatible....if I buy a lower value ok lang ba or should I buy a higher value...Any input will be very much appreciated!
A follow-up question....could it be mga guru's kaya umuusok dahil natutunaw lang yun coating nun coil sa loob ng ballast dahil bago????? Kindly correct me nalang po thanks and more power to the forum!

gamitan mo ng ohmmeter or multitester para makuha mo value ng old ballast mo. bakit naman kaya nasunog yun? ok nga lang yung 1.6 ohms, in which iyan naman provided ng hitachi. tama kaya yung connections ninyo? parang duda ako sa ginawa ng mekaniko mo...hehehe

Thank you Mga Sirs! Siguro nga I have to check with a mutlitester kaso yun tester ko hindi ko na alam nasaan, I had those way back highschool pa mga 92-93 nun electronics namin....both sanwa at alexan tatak pa nila.I'll just buy siguro the digital nalang. I just hope hindi pa busted yun luma (ballast)....long enough pa para mareplace ko sya. Hindi po sya actually nasunog...pero umusok po...para bang yosi na unang sindi...tapos mainit sya kagad hindi gradual, within just 20 seconds sobra init kagad. I'm gonna check nalang uli by multitester....Thanks!

Update ko lang mga gurus, I called up the store where I bought my coil and ballast and they told me,yes talagang umuusok yan sa una dahil nalulusaw yun mga coating lalu na sa winding, and its perfectly natural na maging mainit...very hot na hindi mo raw mahahawakan...kasi nga the resistor is converting the excess voltage to heat...para ang papasok sa coil ay yun desired rating lang so as not to fry the coil. Guess I won't be needing to buy the digital multitester, sobrang mahal nun hehehe My only setback nalang is when I talked to my mechanic, he told me he still prefers the old one kasi nga original at saka matagal ang buhay nun. OT lang po mga guru's have you experienced this dilemma with you mechanics na minsan hirap mo sya i-suggestan kasi experienced na sya? He may know all things but sometimes they become subjective than objective eh....pananaw ko lang po thanks
